I hate video's like that, it is those that have lead to bsl-breed specific legislation, especially for the always discriminated against pitbull. Before the pit, a muscular and extremely loyal, naturally gentle dog, was made into a pit fighter, it was used as a nanny dog, to watch over little children. If you put any dog thru specific training, especially the very loyal pit, they'll go above and beyond to perform.
A dog is a dog and any dog can be turned into a "killing" machine, yes some are more powerful than others, but just like all human beings are human beings, with like abilities, so are dogs, some smarter, some weaker, some nice, some meaner and that isn't breed specific. There are no "super" dogs. We contort and manipulate their attributes to form our needs, wills and wants. There are many breeds much stronger than the pit, yet are seldom mentioned. The African Boerboel or African mastiff for example, has the bite force of a lion, so it's said. The Malinois too has a stronger force than the pit as does the Rot, Doby and a few others.
Lets face it the problem with dangerous dogs isn't the dog, it's at the other end of the leash! Why would anyone want to turn a beautiful loving creature into something that could harm anyways, that in itself says a lot about mankind!!

Agree with Cristy that you can make any breed mean if you raise it wrong. Disagree that it's wrong to utilize and enhance a specific breed's abilities through training to make it an effective protector.

Thanks SG, training a dog to protect is one thing but training and specifically training pits to be fighters, I should have been more clear, is wrong, imo. That is what's gotten that breed it's bad reputation. The wrong training and in the wrong hands.

An example of misconstrued dog belief...I was with my 2 min pins in a park and a passer by mentioned that she was surprised that they weren't vicious. Puzzled I asked her why she thought my dogs should be...she replied "I've met a few dobermans and they were all awful dogs" I asked how many she meant by a few? A couple, she responded. I laughed. I tried to explain to her because the two she met weren't good dogs that 2 wasn't enough to indicate that all Dobies were bad and that my mini pinschers weren't related to the Dobies, my comments left her confused. She still insisted on Dobies and then mentioned Rotties too as being not good dogs. I had to walk away. Some people will never understand dogs and it has to be left at that.

Yes, people who use any dog for fighting are scum. It's been good to see the prosecutions and public shame brought on those people in recent years.

I agree that one can't really judge an entire breed based on a few bad apples, but will admit that I myself don't care for Shitzus because every one I've ever met has been a complete asshole. Wrong, yes, but I can't help it. I try to keep an open mind when I meet one, but so far they just keep being assholes.

Min-pins are cool dogs!

I saw that case and was outraged at the comments regarding a pits aggressiveness. Such an uneducated and misinformed statement. Pits are NOT inherently aggressive, can they be made so, most definitely. But to get them there takes a whole lot of aggressive and rather cruel treatment. Anyone who has spent any amount of time around the breed knows this and unfortunately only those who have seen the worst and not experienced the breed will make statements such as the one Judge Judy made. Stupidity about dog breeds has nothing to do with ones intelligence unfortunately!

You are correct and not correct............Pits have gained the rep not only due to poor training but also inbreeding. Standard Poodles are also considered a risk.

Thanks Papa, you are also partially correct and partially incorrect. Definitely some traits can be passed down, but most dogs are inbred from somewhere down the line. If you meant that pits are often bred recklessly, I'd agree, reckless breeding means no investigation into either dogs heritage, or genetics simply multiplying for money. We've gotten most purebreds from inbreeding. It is a misconception to think that breeding related dogs always causes bad results, not necessarily. Nor is one breed more or less at risk due to inbreeding. Unfortunately what happens is far to many uneducated people get two dogs, and think that's all it takes to make another good dog.
