RCMP raid massive Super Bowl party with ‘Mafia-linked’ multi-million dollar illegal gambling ring
Police say a mob-linked multi-million dollar illegal gambling ring was dismantled Sunday night when heavily armed tactical teams raided a massive Super Bowl party in Markham, Ontario.
An estimated 2,500 people were at the slickly run event at Le Parc Banquet Hall on Leslie Street at Regional Road 7, which police said was an invitation-only party. Tickets were sold in advance and patrons were watching the game on large-screen TVs and eating and drinking refreshments.
Patrons said they were stunned to see heavily-armed tactical officers bursting in before dinner was served to shut the event down. Information from their search warrant was read out over a loud speaker as the facility was slowly cleared.
