Lol, I realize you were being hypothetical since as far as I know you aren't an escort, nor were you retelling an incident had by an escort you knew, that I'm sure, you would have indicated

If you felt I was vouching for the hygiene of backpages, then weren't you vouching for them as well, by indicating that those who advertise there weren't hygienic?
I wasn't vouching for BP but for the many escorts who advertise there. I don't appreciate anyone who lumps us all together, or assumes simply because someone advertises somewhere they're then of a particular quality. In this day and age, and I suppose it may be dependent on the city, if an escort didn't advertise there(BP) she'd be missing a lot of business. Great clients look at lots of sites for a great escort, in my city, Backpages is the leader
Cristy, I am speaking from experience here, without naming names.
I'm the kind of guy who books a session several days in advance, rather than on the 'sperm of the moment basis', when I have morning wood. I've never missed a confirmed appointment, but I have been late, 5-10 minutes, many times. My attitude is that 'my session' should begin at the time I stated I wanted it to, and that applies, if the lady is available, on time. I let the lady tell me when the time has expired.
As a series of percentages, from the past thirty years, with various methods of booking an appointment, these are my personal experiences:
1) I show up, session is cancelled, for any reason: 15%
2) I show up, session is delayed by one-half hour, or less: 15%
3) I show up, time is truncated, for any of sundry reasons: 10%
4) I show up, bait and switch, or inaccurate description: 20%
5) I show up, Escort's hygiene is compromised, by scenario described elsewhere in this thread: 5%
6) Other: 35%
Keep in mind, these involve a number of methods for selecting companionship, and obviously few, if any, of the providers would have been active during that entire period, but I'm sure a lot of guys would have similar experiences.
As for Backpages, I use that term generically, as with the digital version of the ads in the back of The Village Voice in NYC, Now in Toronto, or whatever the local free entertainment newspaper is in your area. I don't do my research there, among the 'fly by night' ads, with images taken from tinyurl, or someone sitting in a cheap motel with a bag of wigs, depending on whether the guy was calling for the blonde, brunette, or redhead.
The weirdest session I ever had was with an East Indian lady, with 'pencil eraser' nipples, who had to switch hotels, just after I arrived. She got a call on her cell phone, from her mother, they spoke in some dialect, and at one point, she hid the phone for a second, looked at me, and said to me: "She wants to speak to you". Her mother actually said a whole lot of things in a short time, but I didn't understand any of it. We parted, and resumed somewhere else about half an hour later, but even though she gave a great BJ, I didn't repeat.
I'm sure you would agree, Cristy, that a significant percentage of ladies who chose this profession do so because they are not sufficiently reliable, in terms of time, to earn a decent wage, without being self employed. In that sense, they have a lot in common with the kind of woman who owns a boutique store that doesn't open before 11:00 AM at the earliest, sometimes later.
There is, in fact, an establishment like that, literally a stone's throw from where I'm living now. Some days, the place doesn't open until 3 PM, and the proprietress still shows up late. Ironically, however, she is 100% reliable, when it comes to returning borrowed items promptly, and she has a great sense of humour, and an open-minded attitude, (she very much enjoys the Viva magazines from the mid 1970's; those were 'Porn for Women', from the same creative team as Penthouse, (Bobby Guccione was the publisher; his wife Kathy Keeton was in charge of editorial for all of the Penthouse stable of mags).
Kathy's vision of Penthouse was like 'NC-17' films, so they were risque in the 70's-90's, without going beyond the limits of contemporary mores. Bob was more into pushing the envelope, to try to change society, rather than tread on the edge of what was acceptable.
Unfortunately, the pendulum swung back; his magazines were placed in sealed bags by distributors, many stores refused to stock the magazine, and the rise of Internet porn pretty much ended the skin mag industry, at the newsstand level.
What everyone learns with erotica and pornography is that you can't go backward: The underwear models in a Sears catalogue don't make a woody, if you see bare breasted African tribeswomen in National Geographic. Those don't work, if you see Esquire. Esquire doesn't cut it, if you see tits and ass in Playboy. Tits and ass aren't enough, if you see full frontal nudity. Full frontal nudity isn't enough, if you see simulated sex. Simulated sex isn't enough, if you see penetration.
It's the same with strip bars. Until about 1986, strippers in Ontario could only be topless. Then they could be bottomless, but no touching was allowed. Then some dancers allowed limited touching, on an ad hoc basis, for an extra fee. Then everybody allowed limited touching. Then more liberal rules applied. Then the pendulum swung back, and the strip club business died.
There was a time when very hot women would work in strip bars for a few weeks each year, often in cities where they didn't live; these were working vacations. They'd take a vacation, to earn big in the strip clubs of another city, to pay for their winter vacation, and their designer handbags/ shoes. There were limits to what they were willing to do. When rules became more liberal, women from other countries, with different moral compasses, filled the void. The best lap dancers were always the Central and South Americans, and the worst were the Eastern Europeans. After a while, they were pushed out by the agressive fat chicks, who thought their asses were worth 3-5 dollars a minute, too, and that was when I said goodbye to strip clubs forever.
