But the same reasons any state, or country for that matter, could be financially "fucked".

I don't understand the resistance everyone seems to have for killing the Department of Education in the states and just letting schools go private. Considering the state of education in the US under decades of management by the government, you'd think everyone would be for it. You'd have a range of school types....ranges of tuition rates....I'm sure there'd even be some free schooling put out by various organizations. Parents could choose to send their kids to any of them. You wouldn't have wasted tax dollars going to shit schools with corrupt admins. Any school that screws up would go out of business and it could be replaced by a new one that caters better to the students and their families.

If you worry about the quality and you need standards.....the market would take care of that as well. The schools would be judged on how the kids turn out....which ones can get in to good colleges, scores on exams, etc. Again, those who don't do well will probably go out of business and those who excel can crank up their fees. Those who worry about the rich getting richer...etc...even the most expensive schools would still look out for bright kids from poor areas. They will want to make sure they get kids that are going to do well in order to keep up their reputation. All schools would have to do their best or they'd disappear just like any other business that dropped in quality.

Keep the government out of it....bad schools would go away quickly....good schools would be emulated. There'd be a range just like with any other industry (Ferraris for some, Hondas for others, etc).

And within those schools, the best teachers can become stars. Those who do really well will be able to move to other institutions where they can make more. Those who can't teach would be weeded out quickly by schools that can't afford to have slacker teachers ruining their reputations and costing them tuition income.

It would be just like the option to choose where you go to college. There would be something for everyone including everything from trade schools to ivy league schools.

It's seems so obvious a solution and I don't understand the resistance from parents. Is it laziness? They just don't want to have to do the research and all of that? They'd rather just have the local school system tell them where the bus will pick up their kid and what time they'll bring them back? Ugh....so much wasted resources on the system we have now.

Don't know about the US, but here, its all about selfish, arrogant civil servant unions, who simply would not allow taxes collected for public school education to be used by parents for private schools.

I know, one would say, how could civil servant unions have that much power, just watch them on a picket line, and consider what will happen to our kids education.
