SOCHI, RUSSIA—Kevin Reynolds did an admirable job filling in for Patrick Chan and ensured Canada a silver medal in the figure skating team competition.

Reynolds landed three quad jumps and scored 167.92 points to finish second in the men’s free skate.

Russia clinched the gold medal later in the women’s free skate, when Yulia Lipnitskaya finished first and Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond was fifth. That gave Russia an 11-point lead heading into the event-ending ice dance free skate, with the medals already settled. The U.S. took the bronze.

Reynolds skated the long program so Chan could focus on the men’s singles event, which starts Thursday. Chan finished third in the men’s short program to open the team competition

Canada was robed of course the gold had to go to Russia. Putin would have sent the judges to the firing squad. This was fixed.

Yes a shutout but our girls were given a huge test today by a gritty Finnish squad. We didn't score until midway through the 3 period and their Goalie Noora Raty was just amazing for 50 minutes. She stopped 39 of 42.

Congrats to our girls but I have to give a full nod to Finland in this one too.

Canada's Men take the ice on Thursday and had their first practise in Sochi this morning. Let's go boys! It doesn't matter what NHL team you play when your country calls we're one!
