I partially agree with you. As adults we can gloss over. However, when trolls dominate the threads, it invites other trolls and eventually the "atmosphere" of the board changes from a mature, kind, gentle place to a circus and dump. When the atmosphere changes like that, the demographic of the board changes.
In this particular situation, I joined HUBGFE because it consisted of a group of people who are fun, mature and respect each member. The recent trolls who are now banned was turning the atmosphere into a juvenile place...similar to another board which I shall not name. The juvenile behaviour, if allowed to continue, would change the nature of the board and thus the demographic of the board. I'm glad the mods took action.

you guys don't really know me, but i will give a prime example of what can happen when trolls invade a forum like this.
i used to be on another board, and it felt like a nice safe place, it was a great place for me to connect with the SW community, and i really loved that.
one day not long after joining twitter, i saw a sp from the board being attacked by another twitter user, and of course i defended her.
wrong move.
unknown to me this twitter troll had an account on that board, and used it to collect information not only on sps but on gents as well.
apparently this person was a neighbor of the girl i stuck up for, and hated sexworkers.
it used google search on pictures, it somehow looked up the ip address for my website, and eventually discovered my legal name.
i then made itself a twitter account using my legal name, and my escorting pictures, and links to my website, it posted reviews from that board, and screenshots of conversations on that board.
when i made a post to alert the community to this, i was banned immediately.
but it didn't stop there, it took awhile to get the first twitter account shut down, but it just made another account now using my twitter handle but missing the. after ms
and it went wild with that, spreading rumors, revealing my identity, using my pictures, it revealed where i live, where my kids go to school ect.
how bad can trolls get? i fucking dyed my hair blonde and applied for a legal name change.
fortunately for me, i was able to grow a set, deal with it, and brush my shoulders off.
but that took MONTHS. and i had to report i dont know how many twitter accounts!
this same troll has gone on to harass and out many other sps since it has moved on from me, and not JUST sps, but also their clients.
the damage has already been done for me. but for someone who hasn't been through it, i wouldn't wish it on them.
all im saying is, i think its great that HUBGFE takes the troll thing seriously, as it honestly can be a huge security issue, not just to us girls, but to you gents as well.

I agree that Trolls should be banned. I think that includes anyone who consistently goes beyond the rules of the board. We are able to criticize in a fair manner, and state our opinion, disagree with someone but beyond that, the moderator should be able to use progressive discipline and ban someone.

having a differing political opinion does not make one a troll unless they a REAL asshole about it.
i also have strong political views, and can argue my point and be polite and remain friends with people whos views differ.

He is talking about 'Group-think Wrath'. When you disagree with the group, the group targets you and tries to shame you into submission.
Libertarians like myself - if multiplied by millions - would have prevented the Nazi regime from killing tens of millions during WW2. It is group think that allowed the Nazis (and the Japanese) to kill nations of people. Group-think allowed slavery to take place. Group think - when abused - is very dangerous. Group think, in Canada, made homosexuality illegal in the 1970s.
