Made with Love

THANK YOU, TBOY

sorry folks, I ahem was working today in the pouring rain I might add....3 deg c...brrr...

ANyhow, thanks for the kudos but above anything else, I will always put differences aside when it comes to someone in trouble....specially with this type of stuff... I knew sg was in a little over her head so I did my best to steer her in the right direction.....

this is one of the reasons I'll never get rich at my trade, I tend to share my knowledge easily....the way I figure it, there is a lot of pride for people who are able to do it themselves and if in some small way, I can help them obtain that pride of accomplishment, then hey, that's reward enough for me....

Anyhow, it ain't over yet and I haven't heard any fat ladies singing.....I do wish sg lived closer because there is a "touch" with obtaining a perfect finish and it would have been so much easier to show her as opposed to trying to put it into words.

All in all though, I'm glad I not only was here to help, but did.......

Pssst dude, you are blowing your persona by being so nice.

I'm in way over my head, and you'd be sick of me by now if we lived closer. I think I understood what you said in pm about how to brush on the clear, I think I am to kind of glide it across the surface as opposed to brushing it on.

it's my big ToDo for today. at least the first coat. waaaaaaaah I don't want to do this.

I have a terrible cold. :(

Now SillyG is getting it. The trick is a steady smooth glide, back and forth as opposed to a hammerjack race to the finish!:rofl!:

Steady and smooth is the plan. :good:

I really don't want to do this. :???::???::???:

just remember: slow and steady and treat it like you're painting an eggshell that's very very fragile....you just want to flow it on.......

I still say you should pick up the wa****ased spray cans, so much easier....you can do it outside or on the balcony......

good luck sg, and if you're feeling crappy, don't do it.......wait until you're feeling better.

Tboy,
Are you trying to seduce sillygirl? :wink2:

I'm so glad you said that. I was just thinking maybe I should wait until tomorrow, now I think I will.

The eggshell analogy was perfect, now I know exactly what you mean. Thanks.

Sometimes the built-in paranoia on this board cracks me up. Surely you should be able to type water base without a space.

lol true...but there's probably a setting that allows them to set a "banned" series of letters without being able to set different instances.....kind of like how the allies bombed germany into submission: they didn't just aim for the factories etc, they just hit everything........

Way to go, tboy! :good:

Wa****ased finishes with no ****ium are preferred by quar****acks from Pe****orough.

Ok, the first coat is done. I brushed out some bubbles but am not quite sure if I made it better or worse. I guess I'll know when it's dry. :arf:

One thing I wasn't sure about was how to handle to curved edge of the table. The table is too wide to start at one bottom edge and bring one stroke all the way across to the other bottom edge. I did the whole flat surface then went back and did the whole edge, feathering it onto the top. I think maybe this was wrong.

personally I never use anything but oil stains and tongue oil

both are applied with a lint free cloth.

But then again I am old

Either do the edges first, or the top, doesn't matter......and let it dry, use 320 grit to sand it back very lightly, wipe off the dust, and do it again...it'll get smoother and smoother each time.

Psmerf: I was going to suggest oil to her but never done it myself and didn't know the durability of the oil finish, considering what got her into this mess in the first place....

BTW: why isn't studely helping with this project since he was the root cause of it?

I think we need to have a talk with Studely! Anyone have rope?

I want it done right, not fast. I don't think he would be particular enough about it.

Besides the next time he comes over I'll be busy dumping him. Was supposed to be last night but I wasn't up to company.

cough cough sneeze sniffle...waah.

Tboy you had mentioned the oil but I thought it had to be redone on a regular basis. I don't want to have to do that.

Dumping him, REALLY?? SG, you have to tell us why, you can't leave our little soap opera board on a cliff hanger like this, be fair.:biggrin2:

It's really no big deal. "Un-exclusivizing" might have been a better word. I just realize this is never gonna be more than it is, and why stay in an exclusive situation at that point?

I might keep him as a FWB, but I want my options open again.
