Made with Love

The Elderly

So I was an overnight stocker at a big store back in 2008. Most of the old ladies were kept in health and beauty. Those right under them were in domestics, and then the youngest were in clothes. Of course, me being awesome I got to work automotive! Woo! Didn't have to deal with co-workers cause it's a one person department.

Anyways! The old ladies who work overnight might seem like they're about to fall apart but they're not. Believe me. They're usually batshit crazy and pretty freaking tough. They can handle some verbal abuse as well as dish it out.

Don't be afraid to tell the woman to get off your back and then give her reasons why she has no right to tell you how to do your job. Seriously. She's only still doing this stuff to you because she thinks she can.

Don't be mean, be polite but firm. I can't stress polite enough, though. Those old stocker ladies can be vindictive if they feel someone was rude to them. So let her know that you think she needs to back off and let you do your job.

If she still continues to be a nuisance then go tell the manager, letting that person know you tried to handle it yourself and tell them what you said, but that it's not working and it's interfering with your work. If the manager thinks things aren't going to get done, they'll usually do something. It'll either be telling the woman to stop or putting you in a different part of the store and letting someone else deal with the old crone.

Good luck!
