Eddie Van Halen has donated 75 electric guitars from his personal collection to music programs at public schools in and around Los Angeles.

The Van Halen guitarist teamed up with -- which provides resources for under-funded music eduction programs -- to distribute the guitars in schools that don't have enough instruments for students to play. The charity provides resources for under-funded music education programs.

“Music is the universal language," Van Halen said in a statement. "It has the ability to transcend and convey every human emotion that exists without saying a word. Music kept me off the streets and out of trouble and gave me something that was mine that no one could take away from me."

He continued: "Music education and families are dealing with the economic times, and I wanted to help them. If I can help a kid discover a liking, or even a passion for music in their life, then that's a wonderful thing. Music has provided a good life for me and hopefully it can help make life better for others with this donation."

On Monday, Valen premiered their first new song with original singer David Lee Roth in more than 16 years when “Tattoo” appeared on YouTube (viaVEVO).The track comes from their forthcoming album "A Different Kind Of Truth," which is scheduled for release on Feb. 7. The last time Van Halen released a studio recording alongside Roth was in 1996 with "Can't Get This Stuff No More." The song appeared on the band's "Best Of Volume 1."

(CNN)A woman being held hostage in Florida ordered a pizza with a special request -- to send help -- potentially saving her life and the lives of her children.

Cheryl Treadway was held by her boyfriend at knifepoint Monday afternoon, along with her three children, authorities said.
She persuaded him to let her use a cell phone to order a pepperoni pizza online from Pizza Hut, according to authorities.
"Under the comments section, there was a message asking them to send help and call 911 as they were being held hostage," the Highlands County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
'We've never seen that before'

When Treadway's order came in, Pizza Hut employees knew who she was because she is a frequent customer. And her message raised an alarm.
"We've never seen that before," told CNN affiliate WFLA. "I've been here 28 years and never, never seen nothing like that come through."
Suspect allegedly armed with a knife

The restaurant chain sent authorities to her house in Highlands County, where Treadway greeted them, carrying a child.
"She related to deputies that her boyfriend, Ethan Nickerson, was in the home armed with a knife and that her other two children were also in the home with him," authorities said.
After escorting her to safety, authorities coaxed Nickerson to come out peacefully. After some resistance, he emerged 20 minutes later, and the other children were removed from the home unharmed.
Report: They were arguing all day

An arrest report stated that the couple had been arguing all day, and the suspect allegedly was armed with a large knife.
Treadway tried to leave to pick up the children from school, but the suspect would not let her, authorities said. He accompanied her to school instead.
When they returned, she begged him to let her order pizza. As soon as she completed the transaction, he grabbed the phone from her, the affiliate reported.
"I don't know if I ever would have thought of it. I mean it's just something that she did so naturally," "The boyfriend never knew about it until he saw us coming around the corner."
Nickerson, 26, was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, battery, false imprisonment and obstructing justice by depriving communication to law enforcement.
Nickerson still was in jail Wednesday morning, with bail set at $45,000, according to Chris Lewis at the sheriff's office. It wasn't clear if Nickerson had retained an attorney, Lewis said, adding that Nickerson is due for a court appearance on June 1.

A Colorado lunch lady was fired for giving free school lunches to kids who couldn't afford them.
Officials at Dakota Valley Elementary School in Aurora, Colo., sacked Della Curry on Friday, CBS News reports.
"I had a first grader in front of me, crying, because she doesn't have enough money for lunch. Yes, I gave her lunch," Curry told the local CBS affiliate, KCNC-TV.
According to the school district's policy, a family of four has to have a household income below $31,000 to qualify for the free lunch program. Those below $45,000 qualify for a reduced lunch — a single slice of cheese on a hamburger bun and a small milk. Plenty of kids come from households that don't qualify for either but still don't have much — or any — money for lunch.

this weekend while at a local park I witnessed an asshole dump his no longer wanted pets and leave..... thankfully, me and a few other kind passerby's were able to round up the animals and get them to a shelter. I got his license plate and description and reported him, still kicking myself for not kicking him!!!

Assholes are everywhere. My mom worked as a vet in your neck of the woods (long since retired) and we got some of the most wonderful dogs we've had from people abandoning their pets, all showing up at her office through the kindness of locals and police who know she would never turn ANY animal away. Right now, I have five dogs, all of them abandoned or sent for euthanasia.

My mom worked as a vet in your neck of the woods (long since retired) and we got some of the most wonderful dogs we've had from people abandoning their pets, all showing up at her office through the kindness of locals and police who know she would never turn ANY animal away. Right now, I have five dogs, all of them abandoned or sent for euthanasia.

I have two dogs, one a rescue and another I got when she was a pup, she is now 12yrs, both small breed and although they're draining me financially I wouldn't trade them for a winning loto ticket. I love dogs, any animal actually and truly appreciate the kindness and respect any fellow human affords them. They deserve it after all. thank you for all of yours

There are days I wish mine were small! My five go through about 25kgs of food a week together, but three are classified as "giant breed" so that's to be expected.

And they all like cheese pizzas. And ice cream. And plain cheeseburgers. And bacon. All preferably at the same time :biggrin2:

Well don't kill them with kindness, all that "junk" food is as bad for them as it is for us but I'm sure you know that. A treat every now and then though is okay. Wow, large breeds, you certainly have patience. That's a lot of dog to care for
