I have been wondering when this would happen. For years I thought how cool it would be to have a scanner built into your keyboard that would allow you to deposit cheques via online banking instead of having to go to the bank or atm.

Seems now Bank of America has an app for that.

They are using a photo of the cheque but you have to wonder how they're getting around fake photos or fake cheques?

I would think a home scanner that could read the magnetic numbers of the cheque would be the way to go.....

I also bet there will be a hold on the cheque until it clears from the issuing institution......

The scammers are patiently waiting and rubbing their hands!

You can always ask your employer to direct deposit your cheques.

Which I can't understand why all don't....it's so simple.....

But by the same token, a lot of my customers have to pay by cheque as do many other companies to create a paper trail.....

Trough Bank direct transfer there is a paper trail. Just a print away.

No I meant they have systems set up with a cheque register and whatever that copy of the cheque is called. (you know, when you print a cheque it gives you a duplicate of the cheque with void or something across it). I've worked for a few companies like this......I think it's old school and they just don't want to revamp their system to direct deposit.....
