But here goes.

I was looking for health food ideas, exercises and general health stuff and came across the Livestrong web site.

So, CG do you use this site? is it any good? What can you tell me?

Yes... I am a member! (Natch!) Been a member for about 3 years. (I even made it my "Homepage" when I was on that "other" BB site. And just revised it here as well)

Excellent source of dietary information, great exercise plans and also very helpful as a motivational tool. And, if you need help and support in conquering some bad habits (e.g. smoking) there are are some excellent hints and tips for that as well....

But, the best part of the site is probably the inspirational stories that people share.

Thanks for the info, I have decided I need to get fitter in order to do some things I want to do and am reading up on things.

The HUBGFE post ... workout routines was very good and I was looking for more info.

CG it's always good to get an answer from you, but it's more fun to pull your chain a bit.

do you really log all your food and exercise info down and track how things are progressing?

I should frequent Livestrong.com more often myself. But I tend to visit bodybuilding.com and arthurshall.com, for his endomorph training guide. But being the scholarly type, I prefer print medium and pick up books and magazines of interest.

I should start tracking my in take though. I've lost only 6lbs of body fat in the last month...Which has been replaced with muscle though. :) So it's all good. But I wouldn't mind picking it up.

Now if I could just find some one to excercise one other 'muscle' group, I'd be rockin. :he:

People like to yank my chain... I can take it... No worries, it is just one of the many services I offer! FYI: I give as good as I get! :whip: LOL)

With regards to the food and exercise logs, not anymore... but I used to. My exercise routines are pretty standard these days...

From Easter to Thanksgiving, I ride... this year 3891 kms... if we get 2- 3 more nice days on a weekend, I will break the 4,000 km mark.

During the winter I have an indoor fitness schedule that goes like this:

Days 1, 3 & 5:

  • 45 minutes on the treadmill (7 km/ hr w/ 15 degree incline)
[*]2 or 3 sets of planks- held for about 90 seconds,
[*]2 or 3 sets of 20 reps leg extensions
[*]2 or 3 sets of 80 cycling crunches
[*]2 or 3 sets of 15 reps leg curls

    [*]2 or 3 sets squats

Days 2, 4 & 6:

  • 45 minutes on the treadmill (7 km/ hr w/ 15 degree incline)
[*]2 or 3 sets of 12 reps on the bench press
[*]4 or 5 sets of planks- held for about 90 seconds,
[*]2 or 3 sets of 12 reps double arm curls
[*]2 or 3 sets of 15 reps alternating single arm curls
[*]2 or 3 sets of 15 butterfly arm presses
[*]2 or 3 sets of 80 cycling crunches
[*]2 or 3 sets of 12 reps upright rowing

But I've been seriously thinking about getting on P90X...

As far as diet goes... I am no dietitian and everyone reacts differently I suppose, but just cutting out ALL processed food has worked WONDERS for me...

Seriously... avoid anything processed! Why? Just read the ingredients on the packages of those "ready made meals"! Those things are laced with sugar and salt & god knows what! Avoid them like the plague... When grocery shopping- fill your cart with items from the outside aisles, e.g. fresh produce, fresh bakery (preferably whole grains), fresh deli counter, butcher shop and dairy counter and stay away from the freezer section and the inside aisles (where the "just add water" and meals in a can section is). Oh, and one last thing... ABSOLUTELY NO fast food!

I also made a few other changes:

  • Replaced sugar with Splenda and cream for milk in my coffee.
  • Replaced table salt with fresh ground sea salt
  • Cut out most sweets (I still have a small desert on special occasions :))
  • Started eating breakfast again- usually some fresh fruit, e.g. pineapple, bananas are my faves
  • Cut down on portion size
  • I stopped drinking beer in July 2006.

MY problem is I really don't like working out. I have been avoiding it for years. I've always been a decent athlete, high level skier (both water and snow), good squash player, good tennis player and such. Plus I've always been very active. I walk the golf course, work lots at the cottage on weekends so i never really felt I needed to work out.

Now as I approach the 50 mark I hurt everywhere. It doesn't seem to matter much what I do I pay for it the next day. Last years ski trip was a disaster, this year I fell off my water ski so hard I hurt for over a week.

Therefore it's time to make some changes.

I'm not sure if my exercise routine will ever amount to 1/4 of your's CG but I'll get something going.

Thanks for the input.

I went all through the section entitled inspiration but nowhere did I find a "we'll send you a sexy personal trainer" so I am beginning to wonder just how good this site can be.

Getting old sucks! But I'm gonna fight it head on for as long as I can!

Doesn't matter what you do to work out, as long as you find something you like and do it everyday. When I first started "living strong" I started walking 7- 10 kms a day, when I got bored with that, I tried to run, but I have bad knees... (ALC tears in both knees while skiing the bumps when I was a much younger man... :frown:) so that wasn't going to happen. That's when I jumped on the bike.

Start out slow, and once you get addicted, it will be a whole lot easier. Trust me.

Oh as for that "sexy personal trainer"there isn't one on the LiveSTRONG site that makes house calls... Too bad Susana Spears doesn't do house calls!

(Note: Susana Spears is a porn star turned fitness trainer, but still does a few Girl on Girl scenes from time to time...)

But I'm sure you can find someone in the reviews section of THIS SITE to satisfy that particular need! :)
