Tourists on safari got about as close to nature as you can get recently at South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
As they were driving through the park, a herd of impala antelope began soaring past their vehicles at lightning speed, the Daily Mail reports.
It soon became obvious they were fleeing for their lives when a pair of cheetahs followed in hot pursuit (video below).
Suddenly, one of the impala turned and veered back, with a cheetah on its heels. Just when it appeared the impala was done for, it leapt for safety — right into the open window of a vehicle full of tourists.
“It’s in the car! It’s in the car!” one of the tourists can be heard exclaiming on the video.
Moments later, the door of the car opened and the impala walked calmly off and out of harm’s way, for now.
Samantha Pittendrigh, 20, was filming the chase when the impala jumped through the passenger-side window of a Toyota in front of her.
“We started freaking out, going crazy,” she said. “We couldn’t believe it — we were absolutely dumbstruck.”
