It’s not every day you find a shopping bag carrying $14,000 in cash on the TTC. But according to the transit authority, one of its drivers working the 85 Sheppard East route around 1 p.m. Friday discovered the wads of bills tucked away in a bank deposit bag after a passenger noticed the shopping bag left on the bus. What’s even more peculiar, though, was the accompanying letter from U.S. Homeland Security indicating the mysterious owner of the money was not allowed to enter the United States. The shopping bag also contained some personal hygiene products. TTC spokesman Jessica Kosmack said the funds were in Canadian currency and were given to Toronto Police. Toronto Police Sgt. Eric Goldsmith said the stash “was wrapped in a bag with a bunch of identifying property in it. The lady riding the bus turned it over to the bus driver, who turned it over to security, who turned it over to police. “The owner has been contacted and will be picking it up.”
