Now that I'm done laughing.... I think those who rely solely on c&p posts are as you described, trying to make themselves seem more intelligent than they are, for what reason, I don't know.
Most people will use C&P as a tool, not as their "only" resource. Most people will also, when speaking on a subject they're passionate about, have some personal experience to back up their opinions. Those are the posts I take seriously. I dislike the posts where and when the op uses only c&p's as their proof of something and doesn't include references to their own experiences or experiences with those they've either met/known or worked with. Also when C&p'ing as long as you're using it as a quote, and not as your own writing, it isn't plagiarizing, if I'm not mistaken
