Seriously, is there anything one cannot sue for?. Did the taxi owners not realize that it's a free enterprise ruled by democracy?. You make an investment, sometimes you strike it rich sometimes you lose. Life is a bitch so deal with it.

No way can they win that case unless I am wrong.

Toronto taxi owners sue city for $1.7 billion over arrival of Uber, lost plate value | The Star

Toronto taxi owners and operators have launched a $1.7-billion class action lawsuit alleging the city has failed to properly regulate the private transportation industry and caused the value of taxi plates to plummet.

Three plaintiffs who are owners and operators of taxi services — Lawrence Eisenberg of Lucky 7 Taxi, Behrouz Khamza of Taxi Action and Sukhvir Thethi of Ambassador Taxi — are named as plaintiffs in a statement of claim filed to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Aug. 21.

When your investment goes from 400 G's to 30 grand, I would bitch sue and complain as well.

When the city doesn't apply the same rules/regulations to operators in the same business, then you sue their collective asses.

Isn't it part of running a business?. Sometimes you gain and win, sometimes your business goes sour.

Its not "part of running a business",... if government makes dumb ass decisions.

But they are always making dumb decisions. So every single business sector is going to start suing them because they couldn't foresee what Uber was about to damage their brand?.

You missed the point, it has NOTHING to do with what "damage Uber has done" to the government regulated taxi industry, but about the idiot government NOT forcing Uber to follow the same regulations that taxis companies were forced to, for the same service.

My van broke down. How can I sue the city.

If you weren't putting so many miles on it, Ubering your customers around, it might not have "broke down".

That's it, I'm going for an enema because I just agreed with all of Robertson's points.
