Toronto tops country in cyclist accidents: report

Cyclists beware: Toronto is the most dangerous Canadian city for a bike ride, according to a recent study.

I like how they at least said that cyclists too have to pay attention, 47% were the fault of the cyclist. Other than CG, most cyclists always say it is always the driver's fault......

They have a point though where it says the weather plays a factor in the numbers. Winnipeg definitely has less days than toronto for cycling.

But once again, I say give the cyclists their own bike paths/routes throughout the city, separate them from vehicular traffic.......

While it is true, I know some riders with little or no regard for vehicular traffic... :roll: I always tell them, "Dude, who cares whose right or wrong... YOU (on a bike) will NEVER win an argument with a driver in a car! (NEVER!) I'd rather be alive than right!

This is why, I prefer to ride on trails that have been DESIGNED and BUILT for me. In spite of what "some" might say. :tongue: (Which I'm sure was said with tongue firmly planted in cheek... at least I hope so... :arf

Having said all that... I'm glad I live in K-W-C as far as riding goes... Toronto traffic scares the hell outta me in my truck, let alone on a bike! :gasp:

hey, there's NO reason the city can't interconnect all the trails and paths we have including utilizing the rail right of ways. Put a covered path along the rail routes with exits to cross streets etc and you can peddle in all weather, rain or shine, sleet or snow. Put an open trail beside it for those that like the great outdoors.

Plus there are awesome side streets to peddle on to get where you're going. Shuter is a great example. 4 lanes, slow vehicle speeds, it'll take you right from river to jarvis with your life intact.....

why not make THESE roads with bike lanes instead of the major thoroughfares that only disrupt traffic?
