I got a valuable Twitter lesson this week. I thought posting a brief statement about my experience as a web designer would be a good idea. I want to brand myself before looking to build an international website.
It was not. Twitter was determined to teach me a lesson. The end result was 146 messages from Banglore and Beijing. I had numerous jobs offers for web design projects starting at $10 an hour. I had messages from SP's in 12 different languages asking me for portfolios and references. I had an offer for a project for a new Brothel in Shanghai. The Brothel is a pancake house with a bothel attached to it.
Give the Chinese credit for creative marketing. "Pancakes in the front, Escorts in the back"
My inbox was just spammed by all sorts of offers ranging from things that appeared legitimate to foreign sweat shops looking to kidnap Canadian web designers.
Lesson learned. Never underestimate the power of Twitter.
