Last week, I posted a story about UFC president, Dana White, having plans to go to Boston after UFC 159 to visit with the victims of the bombing tragedy and to 'write some checks'. True to his word, White did go to Boston, and brought with him checks from the UFC and FOX, as well as personally written checks from himself and Lorenzo Fertitta that were distributed to the victims' families and the .
One thing he didn't do was visit the victims. Out of respect to their grieving process and privacy, the pres felt it best to hang back, and just make sure the funds reached the right places. In an , some comments from Dana were posted from an interview on why he decided to take a subtle approach, and how affected he was by the whole incident, hailing from Boston himself.
"From a guy who's walked those streets and been there at the finish line so many times, it really freaked me out," said White. "I have a hard time talking about it.
"How cowardly and disgusting that these people, who lived in the city as long as they did, did that. To put the bag right next to kids, I don't even like talking about it."
"Yeah, I brought checks and I got money," White said. "The UFC donated, I donated personally, the Fertitta brothers donated personally, and Fox donated. I was really happy about that."
"People are still hurting," said White. "When I say that, I don't mean physically. People still need time. I got money that we are donating for people, but I'm backing off on the whole meeting people. Even Mayor Menino is still visiting families.
"People are really emotionally trying to deal with what's going on, so I backed off a bit."
Charitable acts like these always make me feel all warm and cozy about my fellow occupants of the earth. No matter if you love or hate Dana White, it can never be said that he's a heartless man. His acts of charity and good will are well documented, and are just one of many reasons why I'll always be a fan of him.

Good for him Let us hope that more big corporations step and help the families of the victims.

I met him and a few of his people in a NYC restaurant once. He is a genuine nice guy and very generous with his staff I was told. He also tips 100 % of the bill.

Not many like him around.

He has a lot of detractors but so do most influential people whan you think about it.

In these troubled times it's good for us to here some positive news to reaffirm our faith in our fellow humans.
