Update on the $50M jackpot winners who didn't get their money...

Supposedly they are getting $1.6M each (the original 19 winners) with the rest held until a court hearing on the remaining.

Pretty good deal. The OLG could have just held onto the entire jackpot until the whole thing was settled which would kind of screw the original winners.



There were 11 others who made a "claim" against the winnings. That's a lot. I thought it was only a couple who missed that week's draw....but 11? Seems like anyone who ever played in the group put in a claim.....

If you were one of the dudes that got the money would you not be happy?. Think the OLG did the smart thing to keep their customers happy.

Oh hell yeah.....1.6M now is a shit load better than a "thanks for coming out". They did the right thing for a change and only held onto the disputed amount.....

Good for the OLG. Now the winners should hire top notch lawyers to fight the 11 people that claim they are due the money. If your name is not in the back you should not be a winner.

^^^^^ well, they don't have to. The money is theirs and it is up to those who are making the claim to hire a lawyer. The OLG is charged with determining via the courts whether they have a claim or not. The original winners don't really have a say in the matter I don't think. They may be called as witnesses however to provide proof of what the rules of the group actually were. ie: if you put the money in, you're part of the draw, if you don't, you aren't or if you're away, someone else puts the money in for you etc. Hence why the OLG says have one of their group buy kits and stick by those rules.....

If the common practice was for others to put in for regular players who were away at the time of the ticket purchase, then I support their claim with the caveat that anyone with half a brain who is going away for 2 weeks should be able to remember to give the collector their $2.00 before they go.

I was actually kind of surprised that 11 people were putting in a claim. That's quite a lot of people away on vacay or sick during this particular draw. I can bet you there are claimants who placed once 6 months ago and having played since......
