Seventh graders who cruelly taunted their 68-year-old school bus monitor, Karen Klein, will be punished. In the meantime, Klein has received hundreds of thousands of dollars to help her retire and take her dream vacation. NBC's Craig Melvin reports.

Updated at 6:16 p.m. ET: Bullied school bus monitor Karen Klein might have more than $335,000 to vacation far away from the Greece, N.Y., pupils who bullied her in a profanity-laced video that went viral this week.

Nearly 10,000 online sympathizers had donated that much money by Thursday evening on the fund-raising site Indiegogo.com in a campaign called “Lets Give Karen – The bus monitor – H Klein A Vacation.”

The fund-raising was set up through a , of Toronto, Canada, after he saw the video called "Making the Bus Monitor Cry" posted to YouTube on Monday.

“It’s an incredible campaign,” Slava Rubin, who cofounded Indiegogo.com in 2008, told msnbc.com. “We’re seeing good Samaritans come together to support this brave woman.”

An Indiegogo spokesperson earlier told msnbc.com that the website was in touch with Klein, and she would receive her money when the campaign is over, scheduled for July 20.
Indiegogo charges 4 percent for the fund-raising, Rubin said.

Klein was featured Thursday on the TODAY show, and later said she doesn't really want the “nasty kids” charged.

Good for her, I hope she enjoys the money!

Wzzup I love your avatar, creepy but cool.

It's now over $500,000 but: Bullied bus monitor and students require police protection after threats fly

- Police guarded the home of an elderly bus monitor – who was bullied to tears by a group of Grade 7 boys – after a car full of young people drove by her house several times on Thursday night uttering threats.

“We heard ‘there’s going to be a lynching tonight,’” said Brian Klein, son of Karen Klein, the 68-year-old grandmother who was the subject of the profanity-laced video posted to YouTube earlier this week. So the woman’s family felt they had no choice but to call the police for protection.

- Police in the Rochester suburb of Greece, New York also increased security around the homes of the four middle-school students identified online as those who mercilessly taunted and insulted Klein on their bus ride home from school on Monday.

Online commenters outraged by the profanity-laced video, which has attracted more than four million views Tuesday, took to message boards and social media to demand swift and harsh punishment for the boys responsible.

- One boy reportedly received more than a thousand death threats, prompting Greece Police Capt. Steve Chatterton to warn Thursday against vigilante justice.

- “I am so sorry for the way I treated you,” said one of the students in an apology issued by police Thursday to the CNN show Anderson Cooper 360. “When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again.”

- Bullying expert Stephen Birchak, a professor of counselling at Albany’s College of Saint Rose, said the enormous flow of money for Klein is no surprise given the shame we feel as a society over the incident.
He added that kids are growing up in a world where taking and sharing videos of people in humiliating situations has become all too normal.

“I feel really bad about what I did. I wish I had never done those things. If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that to them,” wrote another student in a statement.

They created a fund for her so she can go on a vacation, therefore she cannot take the cash. What happens with the remaining of the money?.

One father went to her house with his kid and apologized and made his son do the same.

That's interesting and there has been a great deal of commentary regarding this amount https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/22/max-sidorov-man-behind-ka_n_1619137.html

It is upward of 500 000.00 and South-West Airlines has offered the woman an all expenses paid 3 nights for 10 people or her choice at Disney-World!

It's a fantastic gesture for all that have donated but should it not be the parents of the little thugs maybe pitching in to send the nice woman on a retreat instead of others? 500 000.00 would feed and cloth alot of needy people.

Now with that said, last evening I commented to a neighbour that his dog is required to be on a leash as the other 5 dogs in the area were while a group of us were gathered and this neighbour went all Bazerko (pun definitely intended) and seriously this neighbour who is probably 15-20 years my senior took a geriatic sucker swing at me, while being the incredibly highly skilled professional that I am, I stepped to my left and missed completely except for the air beneath his swing and during his follow through, he stumbled over his own dog that was not leashed crashing into the fence stud and slicing open his own face, apparently his lost some teeth and damaged his jaw. As he was crying and bleeding on my property, I politely asked him to leave because he was not invited then I called the police and animal control. My other neighbours waited with and laughed at him until the police arrived. The police called the ambulance for him.

Here's the kicker, another neighbour that was in our group filmed all of it on her phone! I gotta get one of those but then I might not have been able to dodge the geriatic round-house as quick as I did. LOL I kinda shocked at how many police officers attended at brawl between an almost pensioner, his dog and my fence post. It was not the apocalypse afterall.

One officer wanted to know if I wanted charges pressed and I said, "Well that's up to you; it's all on video and there's 8 witnesses that will say his dog is constantly off leash where everyone else in the area follows the by-laws, you make the call, I just want my fence and concrete pad cleaned of the his old blood."

Watching a dumbass geriatic idiot beat himself up, PRICELESS.
Watching the same dumbass geriatric cry like a baby while swallowing his own chicklets, EVEN MORE PRICELESS.
Watching animal control take his dog and signing the complaint that will cost him 200.00 for the at-large charge, plus the 3 days and fees that the dog will be in animal control while the geriatric dumb-fugger licks his wounds and has to collect bottles/cans from recycle-bins to pay the fines for his dog, HAD ME LMFAO for the past 24 hours!

Knowing when I attend dog court for the at-large complaint his fine is 200.00 to the city and 35.00 to me as the complainant/victim, which I will purchase a 12 pack of Brava, burgers and buns with and invite the other neighbours back and we can do this again, INCREDIBLY PRICELESS!

The absolute best thing about this incident, I didn't break a sweat, raise my voice or raise my hand! JESUS H. CHRIST, I'M MORE AWESOME than Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, Clint Eastwood and Dan Tanana because I can beat you senseless just by getting out of the way! DUMB FUGGER!

So, HUBGFE members kindly donate to HOF-apollooza weekend with the ELITE women of HUBGFE fund! If you don't, I'll move out da way, bitch!

The above is no bullshit, this happened Thursday evening.

One father went to her house with his kid and apologized and made his son do the same.

So she will be able to use it all for a long vacation?

cp24 today said its over $600k and that the women only makes about $15k a year.

What would you do if you learned your kid was a bully? In Greece, New York, parents of middle school students who taunted a 68-year-old bus monitor saw it happen on a video that went viral; it captured students hurling insults, threats of physical and sexual assault at Karen Klein. One comment she couldn't ignore referenced Klein’s son, who committed suicide a decade ago.

Personally if it was one of my kids that did that I'd probably be out on bail right now, because I would have beaten him to a pulp.
