Time and again we see people and nations become poor (less wealthy) when they demand that government take a more prominent role in the economy.
Governments are not efficient because they don't face competitors. Therefore, they are not productive with scarce resources. A lack of productivity causes prices to increase and it causes poverty.
So simple, even a 15 year old kid could understand it. Yet, people around the world keep voting for more government.
Ridiculous.

FYI, Sweden has a Debt-to-GDP ratio of 40%. They can't pay for their current bills. They had a debt-to-GDP of 80% in the 90s, but since the government has cut social welfare payments and lessened its role in the economy, things have improved there. Even in Sweden, too much government was bankrupting their economy.
