I used to scuba dive a lot, and always enjoyed watching octopus in the wild. Until one decided to swim onto me head, rip the regulator out of my mouth, remove my mask, and then wrap itself around my head. Now, I prefer to keep them in bottles! :biggrin2:

At the time, I stayed remarkably calm and simply peeled the tentacle from across my face, pulled my reg (it let go) and then pulled the whole octopus from my head like a toque. It seemed to take a long time, but really was probably only a few dozen seconds and I don't think the octopus liked the taste, so didn't hold on. I did have my knife strapped to my leg and could have had dinner if I had thought about it a bit more at the time.
With over 700 dives, and meeting lots of divers, I do know my experience is not uncommon. Octopus will grab hold of divers quite often. Maybe they think the reg and hose is a mating opportunity! :biggrin2:
