The church and other real religions are all organizations that practice the belief and/or worship of a supreme controlling power or deity ( God or gods). Scientology is a practicing life style and is attributed to science fiction. There is just as much basis to get religious recognition as the boy scouts, air cadets, etc. In fact HUBGFE should get apply for the same legal status - then perhaps we can fight C-13 on religious persecution grounds.

I lived in midtown Manhattan at the time of 9/11. Soon the streets were filled with people wearing yellow T-shirts that said Minister. I found out that they were Scientology members using the 9/11 tragedy as an opportunity to get new members by misinformation. They prey on the weak minded but in this case they were hoping scoop up a people of a higher intellectual level by getting them when they were in shock /grief/ mourning..

Florida private investigator Dwayne Powell, now 43, divulged his role in tracking Ron Miscavige, who had recently left Scientology, to police after an arrest on suspicion of obstruction in West Allis, Wis., in July 2013, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The church allegedly paid Powell and his 21-year-old son $10,000 a week to go through the elder Miscavige’s emails, track his car through GPS, eavesdrop on his conversations, and conduct other “full-time” surveillance for 18 months, according to police documents obtained by the Los Angeles newspaper.

Powell told police that while following Ron Miscavige on a shopping trip, he called his intermediary to the church for advice after seeing him grab his chest and slump over in what appeared to be a heart attack. According to police records, David Miscavige allegedly called Powell back two minutes later and told him not to intervene to save his father’s life. “David told him that if it was Ron’s time to die, to let him die and not intervene in any way,” according to police records.

scientology have offshoots called LGATS or large group awareness training. people took classes in scientology where members of scientology ad start groups like landmark education or landmark forum. they have seminars usually on the weekends 12-14 hour days you are locked in a windowless conference room. where you undergo psychological breakdown, and other cultic brainwashing sessions and at the last day you build up as a new individual which is similar to the "born again" tactics in charismatic/Pentecostal and christian cultic circles. you are also encouraged to bring more people in and pay more to get in higher levels.
