This is becoming an interesting introspection regarding how people perceive themselves, versus their actual reactions during discussions. It seems many believe themselves to be perpetually calm, cool, collected, balanced, and universally unruffled - even in the most controversial of thread discussions.

We seem to all own and cherish our carnival 'Fun House' mirrors, don't we? LOL!

Hahaha, That is what I was thinking. I think I need to get into a couple more threads on hot topics to see if my feelings now are the same as when I am actually in it.

Indeed, Sir. Many of us like to think of ourselves as open-minded and accepting, while in reality we are nowhere near the paragons we wish we were.

That's not what you asked for in your original post. You asked for the answer to what we'd be least likely to accept advice on.

Politics and religion is the one for me. I despise the Conservative government and I don't believe in organized religion so discussing either topic will get one no where fast.

I'm pretty much willing to listen and consider all those topics... but I also consider the source... there's some folks who, as soon as they open their mouth, I tend to turn down the volume.

That's right, but there has been an interesting trend of responses essentially stating "I basically accept everything, at face value, and treat most posts equally." (paraphrasing) Fact is, we all demonstrate every day in every thread that there are indeed issues/topics/comments of varying natures that we react to in a less than dispassionate manner.

I love the way you think. :wink2:

I read that after I answered.
The original phrasing made me think I am least likely to accept feedback and advice about humour as it just seems so irrelevant to another person. If someone took offence to a joke that was offensive to a group of people (sexist, racist, etc.) I would classify that as an ethics & morality discussion not about my personal humour. If someone were to critique my love for Animaniacs or Sarah Silverman I would likely ignore it because it really doesn't matter to me if they have a different sense of humour than I do.

What will get me riled up isn't the topic but rather how it is approached, if we disagree on religion as an example that's fine but if you don't respect that I can have a different view and that I have put a significant amount of thought and consideration into my view then I will be offended. The same goes for most of the topics listed, I am not going to be upset if we discuss them but if you cannot respect that my thoughts on the matter were formed through my own experiences and exposure in life then it may not be something to discuss with me. I will gladly listen to feedback and no topic is off the table for discussion as I am certainly not always right but it must be a discussion not a lecture as I am at a point in my life where I have a reason for my views that are entirely my own (not just handed down from my parents) and I have generally put a great deal of thought into the how and why I believe any particular thing and I expect that the person I am having a conversation with has also.

:clapping2:

It really depends who is giving the opinion. If I feel the individual is very knowledgeable on a certain topic I may listen whereas I would tune out some people on some topics if not all topics.

Again though this is not really what how I interpreted your question. On the board I will certainly dismiss the opinions certain people simply because I know we have very different thoughts and approaches to life that will likely never connect or I cannot determine their expertise in an area so I will be skeptical of their professional opinion and advice.
To use myself for example if you had asked what in regards to "Kyra" I will dismiss it is almost always posts in regards to my business model, there are many, many posters that I have never met that seem to have very strong opinions about how they believe I should operate. For me this is not something I would pay attention to, if you do not know me then you probably do not know my reasoning for my business model and feedback is essentially irrelevant. That sort of feedback will sometimes get under my skin (eg. lower your rates to see more people - I see that a lot and dismiss it the minute it is brought up as that is the opposite of my business model) and it is why I will sometimes stop participating on a board but I view it more as a sign that the board is not in my target market so in that way that sort of feedback is effective and useful... just not always in the way it was intended. :wink2:

Since you did not specify it was on the board nor about this industry then I assumed it would be in regards to how I am in personal interactions with those I know, and I hope most that have met me know I actually enjoy hearing a different perspective and that I do not disregard their thoughts simply because they are different from mine. Will I incorporate it into my own life? Maybe but not always... but I do not disregard an individual based on the topic, all topics are fair game but not all opinions are created equal.
If I had understood the question in the way it was intended I would have had very different answers but as the question evolves my answer does as well as I answered assuming you were talking about people I know, respect and have some sort of relationship with... total strangers are entirely different as they are less likely to sway my opinion. (some do but it is far less likely)

Actually Kyra, the original Poll question from post #1 still stands, but it has been elaborated upon through discussion in an attempt to make it clearer to the members here. The conversation surrounding the original question does seem to be evolving and expanding though, and has raised at least one interesting observation - that which you quoted me on above.

I'd also harken back to the first post in this thread, where it was specified that the poll related to online discussion forums. It was implied that familiar ERBs were the probable milieu of the members being asked to respond, but fact is, the poll is essentially applicable and transferable to participants of any online discussion forum, sex industry-specific or not, generally speaking. :biggrin2:

All I can say is that I liked Kyra's response. No one can judge unless they know you, same goes with how you run your business.
