Most religions have an equivalent to Heaven, therefore it depends upon your belief system.

For example, one major tenant is believing that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Outside of that, it starts to branch all over the place with things like Confession, Purgatory, level of adherence to Scripture and Church doctrine. Etc.

Meanwhile the likes of Norse mythos, they didn't have a Heaven as we now believe it, they had Valhalla and how to get in there was very different from Christian teachings.

Then you have Greek mythology and Hades. In this day and age, we associate Hades with Hell, but then it was the afterlife in general. One the departed ended up in Hades, they were then sent to the appropriate realm, or what we would consider Heaven and Hell, and umpteen shades in between.

Then you get those that get into resurrection, and that's a whole other mess.

The real joy is each system pretty much says if you believe it or not, you're going for the appropriate ride. IE Christianity would say since you don't subscribe to it, you're going to Hell, whether you believe it or not.
