I heard a good point made during a discussion the other day. Parenting only goes so far...there are some great and caring parents who've turned out kids that were train wrecks and some uncaring, abusive parents that have turned out kids that become complete successes in life. Siblings sometimes go down different paths.

As a dad, with only a boy to raise...I just hope he is happy and I will try to steer him away from things that I think will bring him pain and suffering...but ultimately, he will make his own choices when he grows up and all I can do is be there to help him if he needs it.

Brilliantly said. I turned out completely not what my parents wanted, but all in all, I think I turned out ok. And yes, that includes my being part of the hobbying community. I would extend the same respect and courtesy to my child, raise them to make intelligent decisions about the events that occur in their life. Ultimately, you are only responsible for your own actions.
