What's your workout schedule?

I had taken a bit of a break during January working out at the gym, simply because with the added enrollment it became a pain in the ass to get access to most of the equipment. Being in a crowded gym of people wasn't much fun either. I like to get in, get my shit done, and get on my way ... I have tunnel vision in that regard, and don't pay much attention to the people around, other than when I have to keep waiting between sets.

So, enough about that. I'll be getting back on top of protein supplements and the 3-4 workout a week starting next week, but unsure whether I should be doing this at the start of the day or on the way home. Some schools of thought say do it when you have the most energy, others say it's more effective to spend the remainder of the day's energy.

Thoughts?

You've never met me. The last thing I need is Cardio haha I only do it for heart conditioning in short intense spurts. My daily intake on workout days is about 4000 calories, I'm not attempting to lose weight.

For home workouts, "Insanity Workout" seems to be a fun challenge.

Why don't you buy one of these?.

I am doing the insanity workout at home too.
It is a fun challenge! To say the least. It is a sweat fest.

Calling Dr. Bosco.

Well since you asked.

I have read that the best time to exercise is 3 hours after you wake up or 11 hours after.

Personally I'm in there at the 3 hour mark.

I find it less busy in the morning and there is a very positive vibe with the morning crowd.

Less youngsters as well which I find slow me down with their chatter and lack of focus.

Years ago when I worked in the Biz I would do a double split routine.

1.5 hours in the morning usually at 9 AM and another 1.5 hours at 10 PM.

Did this 6 days a week. That's a lot of over training to tell the truth but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I'm kind of on the fence with protein supplements these days.

I would prefer to get my protein from food rather than supplements.

And I'm not really sold on the fact that one needs massive dosages of protein to build muscle.

But at the same time I've seen scores of trainees build impressive physiques scarfing down protein powder by the buckets.

It seems to be an individually specific kind of thing.

If I could manage split workouts, I probably would. Time constraints within my schedule would keep me from it though. The 3/11 thing makes sense, one school of thought is most energy, they other expending the remainder of it. I'm leaning towards the daytime workouts since it's just a better atmosphere for me than having to deal with the late afternoon/evening social gatherings the gyms seem to have.

I usually go 3-4 times a week for a little over an hour on a focused area. Maybe one of the workouts goes 2 hours if I'm feeling adventurous and want to cover the whole body. My BFI is naturally about 6%, so I've been cautioned not to do any more cardio than it takes to elevate my heart rate for a few minutes as it's not any benefit to me beyond that.

The main reason I'm taking the protein supplement has to do with metabolism. I seem to not be able to store anything my body has an immediate use for ... so some saturation is necessary. Both my doctor and a family member who is a dietitian seem to think it makes some sense as an alternative to massive eating. One is whey for quicker absorption after my workout and the other is casein for overnight and is slow absorption. Realistically, I take in about double what my body could use, because it only absorb what it needs. My metabolism seems to be pretty close to what it was when I was 20, I won't complain.

Thanks for the input, it was helpful :)

A question if I may.

How much do you weigh and how many grams of protein are you consuming daily?

6' 0" 145lbs (66kg)

70g - 80g non-workout days. 150g - 160g on days that I work out. Essentially about 2g/kg.

From what I've researched, the body is only going to absorb what it needs for repair and building. The elevated amount is to be sure that it's available. I don't see it as more protein = faster gain .... it's more of making sure that the body can take advantage of all that it can make use of.

I'm targeting to be in the 175-180lb range.

My exercise schedule is simple: clean and jerk at least once a day, and do pushups on a cute lady at least four times a week. Some weeks are better than others for sticking to the exercise plan. :biggrin2:

You are a leftie.

Get it :unknw:

I'm all over the damned place with my work outs. :p

I've just recently started Poliquin's German Body Comp routine, which is a four day split. (Mon,Tues, Fri and Sat) Tues and Fri are usually in the mornings, where as Mon and Sat are in the evening.

Plus I also train Muay Thai and BJJ Mon through Thurs, in the evenings. Which is usually 2-3 hours, of technique, conditioning and sparring.

As you can guess, Mondays suck.

Though the last couple of days have been brutal, I've just run out of energy and my legs feel like they're empty. No get up and go in them. Not DOMS, just spent.
