I read this article and mirrored mine. We are in our 50's, Mom in her 80's and lives alone at home. We hired her nurses but they leave her, she is kind of rude to them. Fine, she is mean. She lives in our old home but harasses all of us including our kids and close family friends with daily calls just to complaint about nothing. I love her dearly but want to put her in an old's home so she can interact with people her age.

I haven't told her yet. Just waiting for the right time. Have anyone here been through a similar situation?.

Here is the article that made me speak up.

No I am not shallow, just a handle I made up for the fun of it.

I can believe your story and can't help you there but Peter sounds to me like a greedy fuck.

I hope this isn't a rude question, but has she always been mean/negative?

If not, perhaps there is a medical reason for the personality change. Or maybe it's medication-related.

She sounds lonely, maybe thats why the daily phone calls. Maybe she complains because she doesn't see anything positive in her life to talk about.

I agree that getting her social time with her peers is a good idea. Is there any way to do that without removing her from her home? Or has it hit the point where she's not safe living there?

Don't get me wrong. She sounds mean to others because she doesn't know better. She did not have a proper education.

It has hit the point that not safe for her to live alone. Thank you for asking.

If it's a safety issue, I would suggest you take her to the doctor and let the doctor be the one to say she shouldn't be living alone anymore. Make him/her the bad guy, as much as you can.

Of course you need to talk to the doctor ahead of time and make sure they will go along.

When you do get her into a home, please make sure she gets visitors. Not only for her to feel good about it, but the patients who get regular visitors get better care.

Old age is very sad for many seniors. I've seen many families put their old parents in homes and hardly ever pay a visit. Seniors become very stubborn with age and so many people with today's pressure can't handle the added stress. It's a shame, it really is!!

been through this situation go to the home first and see what they do and if they have activities to keep them busy nothing worse than nothing to do
research is key

Make sure you find a fair retiring home. Some are too ran down and lacks daily maintenance.

My mom is awesome. When my dad died, I had her move in with me as she is quite elderly and not in good health. As hard as it is sometimes, I know in my heart it is the right thing to do.

A good deed A1. Does she want to guide you and tells you what to do at times?.

I think everyone's mother does that on occasion. It is a parent thing that I have no doubt I'll be doing to my own children years down the road.
