Who should buy the food?

When you visit family or friends, do you buy the groceries or do you expect they should feed you. What do you think is proper etiquette? I always buy, I feel more comfortable buying and that way too, I'm sure to have what I like to eat on hand.

If I host I prepare enough food for a battalion so no need to bring anything, but expect to take some home. I don't like to eat leftovers for a week.
If you want to bring some booze you are more than welcome.
