That's why I don't believe in democracy, I believe in libertarianism.
Democracy means that one larger group of people (who will undoubtably be misinformed), can control a smaller group of people (who will undoubtably be misinformed as well). The politicians trade power and then control the masses and shit on everyone.
Libertarianism is the individual making choices - on his own or together with others - without force or coercion.
Take the CPP. I have to pay into that. I know it is a ponzi scheme but if I refuse, I will go to jail. Now, the Ontario government is starting another penison ponzi scheme. I too have to pay into that or go to jail. Even though I know both pensions plans will allow the government to skim and otherwise squander my savings, I have to do what they say or I will go to jail.
In a libertarian based system, I would invest my own money (untaxed), for my own retirement. I can use it as collateral to borrow against, I can transfer it upon my death to my beneficiaries etc. It is my growing asset and I get all the proceeds from it. It is a much greater value than the crappy $700 per person that the Canadian government currently pays out in CPP benefits, on average, per retired person.
Think about it, the average worker pays 10% to their CPP contributions for their entire career and yet the government only gives them an average stipend of $700 per month from that 30 to 40 year investment. And now that the CPP has been raided all these years, the government of Ontario is forcing Ontarians to pay into another government run retirement ponzi scheme.
Unbelievable.
And if you ask the average person on this board about the election, they will say something to the effect of:
I hate Harper. My hobbying rights are being trampled on by Harper................... '
