Just in case you're wondering, yes, someone has put this question to scientific study.

Poll reveals 14 percent would choose pet over spouse in US

2011-01-26 16:00:00

A survey has found that 14 percent of people in US would rather choose their pet over their spouse or partner.

The AP-Petside.com poll conducted by GfK Roper Public Affairs and Corporate Communications also showed that 84 percent of current pet owners would hold on to their spouse or significant other.

Unmarried people are more likely to choose their pet over their mate, which amounts to 25 percent among unmarried pet owners versus 8 percent among the married.

Count Fidel Martinez, 30, of Akron, Ohio, said he would give up his girlfriend but not Killer his mix-breed, 100-pound rescue dog.

"I would absolutely give up my girlfriend for him. I know it sounds insane but I've had numerous relationships with women. My dog has never let me down," the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.

Women are far more apt than men to say the human-pet choice would be a tough one (40 percent among women compared with 26 percent among men), but both genders are more likely to hold on to their partners.

There was also no difference between dog and cat owners, with 35 percent of each saying the choice would be a hard one and more than eight in 10 would choose their spouse.

Urban dwellers (47 percent) are more apt to say they'd have a difficult time choosing than did suburbanites (35 percent) or rural residents (25 percent).

Depends of what she looks like. If it's like her then it's a no brianer :666:.

The difference is when I come home a little sweaty and smelly my dog still comes and sniffs my butt, sticks it nose into my crotch and is very happy to see me. I don't think this would be the case with a wife therefore I will choose my dog.

Seems like you may be well suited for her! Brainer!:na:

Without question my dog. I through a bone to my wife but she won't fetch

They also state that abuse women will not leave their spouse because of the pet.

Lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of your car for an hour. Which one will be happy to see you?

Last time I locked my wife in the trunk she came out swinging with the tire iron. I'd pick the dog.

What is the difference between a puppy and a man?

Eventually the puppy will grow up and stop whining.

I don't have a dog...

My ex wife and I were at a dinner party once and she joked to the table that she wasn't sure given the choice between the family pet and her who I would choose.

I remember thinking to myself that would be an easy choice and she wouldn't be to happy with the outcome.

There is a big difference between married/dating. It would also depend on the length of time you were dating as well.

I can honestly say that if I was dating a woman for less than 4 yrs and she said "the cat or me" I'd say "see ya". It speaks volumes if someone would say that to begin with.

Now if I was married to someone and we had a great relationship and she developed allergies and no remedies would work? That's a toughie but I'd say that I'd have to get rid of my cat but it is my experience that your pet would be with you for 15 yrs, you can't say that about a partner.

Oh... I can swap out dog for a cat???

In that case, I'd take Mrs. CG... everyone knows I don't like hairy pussy! :)
