Why can't most women engage in a meaningful conversation?

About twice a month, I find myself eating dinner in a restaurant with a pretty lady.

When I take a woman to dinner though, I find that I have to dumb down the conversation to get them to engage with me. I find it is so difficult to get most women to talk about anything worthwhile.

Women love to gossip about other women - especially their friends. I have listened to female after female tell me how bad or terrible or ugly their friend is. Or how they are better than other women, etc. Women love to talk about celebrity style news and information and many women will even discuss sports at some length these days. But, if I try to have any informational or purposeful discussion, it is like going to dinner with someone who speaks a different language.

And I find with most women that you can't stray from popular opinion. If she knows that 80% of the country thinks favourably of something, she will not accept anything from me except favourable comments about it. In general, if I talk about anything that requires thought, they women seem so uninterested. I really get discouraged because its almost like I am talking to someone I just met in an elevator. The covnersation gets so pointless.

As an example, if I talk about politics, all I am permitted to say is: Justin has very nice hair and seems like a gentleman. That will get a positive reaction from the women I generally take to dinner. But, I actually don't care about his hair.

Conversely, if I say something to the effect of: Politicians answer to their backers and their backers represent various special interests, so in fact, Justin doesn't decide anything; I get a blank stare and then annoyance and the women I am with will be quiet for the next 5 - 7 minutes.

If I mention that the Bank of Canada controls most of what goes on in this country because they control pricing of goods and services, inflation, interest rates, savings and most investment; again, I get no response.

If we are talking about our health and I bring up the fact that dogs and cats can get faster treatment than human beings in our country, again, I either get a blank stare or annoyance. I have even had girls deny that this is the case.

I find I have better conversations with men - more intelligent ones. But, then I am always drawn back by the pussy that women offer. If I could just lay off pussy, I think I would be moving forward in my life.

Since you asked ...

If you conduct your dinner conversations like you write your posts, you talk AT people, rather than encourage discussion.

You tell us what you believe. Period.

Your POV is the only correct POV. Period.

You denigrate all who dare to disagree. Period.

You're not open to change. Period.

You're not open to considering the other person's POV. Period.

You just want to tell us what you think. Period.

Thanks for listening.

Also, gossip is only discussed when it's encouraged. Make it known you don't like it and it'll stop. Most gossipers only do so in front of the like minded.
Have you ever thought, perhaps your dinner companions are picking topics they feel you'll understand, perhaps they're dumbing it down as well, to relate to you! All in all, positive conversation attracts the same, negative conversation, most likely will get negative feedback. As Escape said...since you asked... It does appear though, the common denominator in your scenario's appears to be you, maybe it is you with the issues and not your companions:). Something to think about. Sometimes the way we see things isn't as they are, sometimes taking a step back, hearing advice and accepting it as advice and not insult or useless info can be of help, it is up to you to decide.

Instead of making statements, ask questions. I am completely inept when it comes to conversing. I sound like a know-it-all, like I am arrogant, and if I find the lady attractive, my brain doesn't want to play catch with neurons, so I sound like a stupid arrogant know-it-all. So instead of saying "Politicians answer to their backers and their backers represent various special interests, so in fact, Justin doesn't decide anything" I would ask "Why do you think politicians never seem to answer to their backers?".

Bingo.

Read Dale Carnegie. Most of the women I date are intelligent and interesting people, all you have to do is find a common interest and I have a great evening
