Why do Canadians keep going to Mexico?

The television network is reporting the 46-year-old man’s relatives say they’ve been told he was the victim of a homicide while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta on July 28.Lang reportedly owned an insurance agency with other relatives.There have been a number of high-profile deaths of Canadians in Mexico in recent years.

Earlier this year, Sheila Nabb of Calgary had to have extensive facial reconstruction after she was severely beaten while vacationing at a five-star hotel in Mazatlan.Mexican authorities later charged Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero, 28, with attempted murder.​

I have traveled to Mexico several times in the last 4 years. The last time being just 3 months ago and I have never encountered any problems. I do have a connection with that country, as I have some very good friends that are locals down there and I find the people very hospitable. Like any foreign country you visit, you just have to be aware of the situation there, take appropriate precautions and not bring unnecessary attention to yourself.

In the last year, I have traveled to Colombia and Jamaica, both countries with a reputation for violence, yet I don't see a warning for Canadian Citizens not to travel to these countries.

It's how you carry yourself I agree with Hof. I've travelled to many destinations and always leave the touists areas and have never had any problems.

Let me say that I do not condone or look for fights, nor do they look for me. My father taught me at a young age only to fight if you're in a corner or you're defending someone else for some reason.

Other than my chosen career path and two occasions through sports, I'll say there have been 8 times where I've had to physically fight, there really are never any winners either. 2 occasions were in high-school and we were drinking buddies the next weekend. 1 occasion was in high-school when a senior not much bigger than me tried to stuff me in a locker, boy that guy was really stupid. The fourth was my sibling and I kicked the shit out of him for hitting my mother. So half were as a teen and two were even.

One in university and I was crushed by some guy, and I deserved it. The only shitty thing was he came at me from behind and suckered me.

Okay, Sao Paolo, Brazil with two friends, both big guys and can handle themselves. We were in a nightclub where the women out number the men 4-1 and you never take the first one because the third one that you meet will be absolutely gorgeous. These are run of the mill women either; they are professionals (not escorts) looking for Mr. Goodbar because the majority of Brazilian men are douchebags. Anyway, we all score and there are six of us heading back to the hotel a 10 minute walk. Three Brazilian douchebag assclowns approach us and demand money. My friend says, "Fuck Off" Okay, it's on! Out come these tiny exacto blades. My other friend was military, and the friend that said, "Fuck off" well he likes to fight and is really good at it too. LOL.

Before anything started, I punched one of them on the inside of the knee, right on the soft tissue and he went down like a Brazilian Prostitute for 2.00 writhing in pain, my friend kicked the tiny exacto blade away, the other two assholes ran. I took my left hand and squeezed his wind-pipe, at the carotid arteries, and looked at this pig like you're gonna meet your maker, when his eyes bulged, I took my right thumb and drilled it right into his eye socket. That's when my buddies grabbed me off of this asshole, so one last kick to the nuts and went to the hotel with the women, got drunk, got laid and left 2 days later.

I helped an off duty cop in 2000, got to meet a bunch of politicians for that, a couple of free lunches and free dinners.

Then, the asshole neighbour with the dogs, who actually punched missed and hit the fence recently:wink2: He's so stupid that he wants more!
He called me gay and homo and I said to him, "you spend too much time on my=terd." Fuck off, dickhead. His name is Richard, so I call him Dick or dickhead everyday. LMAO.

umm the odds are against you? what odds are those? I don't know the exact number but for the "odds to be against you" that would have to mean that more people are killed in mexico than those who survive a vacation there.....as it stands millions go every year yet only a small few get hurt or killed......so by those odds the odds are definitely NOT against you.....

But the reason people keeping going is because it's a great place to vacation and it's still reasonable and the vast majority of people are safe there....

More to the odds scenario, why do people keep coming to Canada to vacation/school etc? Considering there's been 2 chinese students killed in the past 2 yrs....

Baz: have you ever travelled to one of these countries? While there IS poverty, there is also very high crime simply due to the fact that most of the police forces are either very corrupt, or simply undermanned. These places aren't like here, where you make a call and 2 minutes later a car pulls up......you make a call and I have heard it could be 2 days for them to come if at all...and then if they do, if they see a local hurt, and a foreignor standing over him, they might simply take the foreignor in and you won't see the light of day for years.......

Another thing, have you ever had to physically defend yourself or Ida? I tell you, I had to (numerous times) and the one thing you DON'T do is leave your opponent in any condition to get up.

Story for you:

Back in my younger days up in Pe****orough, I hung with a bunch of locals. We went out to river road (party place) and had a fire, and were having a great time. A guy walks up and says hey, starts partying with us....I had this big foam chair in my van that I had for extra people to sit on while in the back, and I'd use it to sit around the fire......well this guy got it in his head that it would make great firewood....I said Ummm no.....we scuffled, I put him down, my buddies hauled me off him and that was that....I went around the picnic table to cool off while they helped him up and got him out of there....

I was just standing there and turned and here he was standing on the picnic table and kicked me in the face. I wore glasses at the time and he kicked me so hard he drove one of the lens' up under my eyebrow......well, 15 stitches later.....and a pair of $200 glasses ruined, I had to call my dad and have him and my brother drive to pe****orough to drive me and my van home....

WHen I had him down I did something to keep him down while I got away, I would have survived unscathed.....I don't start things, but I know now to finish them.....
