Maybe people relate the comfort and security they feel having sex in the dark to the only other time when it's customary to be in the dark...while they're sleeping. So it's easier for them to be intimate. Or maybe it's used as an additional veil. I'm not sure since I'm kinda afraid of the dark haha so I've only done that perhaps 5 times in my life...and come to think of it, the fear made it more exciting and tantalizing for me.
