Isn't it like a lot of things, status, comfort, or simply because you can. Those who fly first class can afford to, maybe the same reasons some drive mercedes and others drive less expensive cars. All cars will get you from point a to b, but some like the status of driving a luxury car and lets face it, most are more comfortable.
