Why Every Business Today is Screwed Up, Expained in Twelve Minutes

This sketch from The Tracey Ullman Show, which originally aired on Fox-TV on February 5, 1989, explains in eleven minutes, forty seconds, why every business is screwed up today. In my opinion, this is the best comedy sketch of all time, and it was performed live in front of a studio audience.



Notes: Sourced from an old VHS tape, the sound level is lower at the beginning, but increases later.

Dan Castellaneta, who portrays Leonard, is best known today as the voice of Homer Simpson. That's Tracey as Zizi, and Anna Levine as Renee. Anna was a regular cast member only on season 3. Pat, (Janeen Rae Heller), was not a professional actress, per se, and this might be her only television appearance on a prime time show. She is/ was a performer in Las Vegas, doing the act that she performs in this sketch. The ambiguity of that last remark may prompt some short attention spanned readers to watch a brilliant piece of comedy and social commentary for the full twelve minutes, but I doubt it. This is for everyone else.

Steve, every avatar has the right to post whatever it wants to on a board. If what is written is deemed to be offensive to reasonable standards, mods will remove it. Having what has been said to me be acknowledged is a privilege that I no longer extend to Mr Burns. Similarly, I do not acknowledge text written in threads which are insufficiently interesting to me that they be explored; the thread title is usually the determining factor.

Should Mr Burns' script writer wish to communicate with me bilaterally, persona and attitude changes would be expected.

I have a limited amount of time to spend on a board like this, and no time whatseover for those on my Ignore list. What those avatars write for others is of no concern to me.

That's a complete falsehood.

When avatars attack me personally, because they don't agree with my ideas, I discontinue communication, after retaliating, 'after the Baptism'.

If an avatar refuses to conduct itself in a civilized manner, I make an example of it, as a warning to others who would emulate, and for the amusement of the audience. Verbal delinquency holds no appeal for me, neither for reading, nor for participation. After having excreted 'yesterday's lunch', I do not contemplate its ultimate destination.

To quote Virgil Solozzo in "1", "I don't like violence, Tom. Blood is a big expense".

"Why so Serious?" It is to laugh.

As you know Steve, I write more than my fair share of the funniest stuff on this, and any board on which I participate. I don't regulate how anyone interacts with each other, only how they interact with me. Mr Burns is free to troll anyone else he wants to; that is not my concern. The same applies to Mr Homeless Hamster Guy, and Igor. I do not stick my nose in other people's businesses. I only establish clear rules as to how other avatars may interact with me, and my penalty for transgression.

No avatar has a right to troll Flash Bazbo. If an avatar serves no purpose other than to do that, my justice is swift and firm. As Alex Delarge clearly stated in "A Clockwork Orange":



"We're not little children, are we, Georgie-Boy?".

If an avatar wishes to annoy others, I am sometimes amused by these antics, privately. If an avatar seeks to annoy ME, and has no other perceived purpose, I cut it a new one. End of story. The dual-anused avatars may feel free to migrate elsewhere, and should they so do, their ecological niche will soon be filled by other avatars, more able to adapt to climate change.
