LIVE OAK, Texas – A Good Samaritan was shot and killed trying to stop a robbery. Two armed men attempted to rob Kay Jewelers in Rolling Oaks Rolling Oaks Mall just after 3:30 Sunday.

An unarmed man attempted to stop the robbery and was shot and killed. Another man, who was carrying a licensed concealed weapon, then shot and wounded that robber.
The second suspect fled the scene, shooting as he ran. He is still on the run.

“It’s absolutely senseless. Absolutely senseless.

This is the second time that a Good Samaritan was killed trying to intervene in a crime to help the victim,” It's senseless.

I don't blame the Samaritan for trying. He was probably sick and tired of crime and people getting away with it as much as the next guy but chose to do something. Unfortunately, it ended tragically for him. A gun wouldn't stop me either.

Only those who are specifically trained to disarm a person should attempt this. I was teaching my son how to disarm someone with a gun a couple of months ago. "Shit Dad, you're still quick for an old guy..." LOL. It's technique first, speed doesn't buy you anything unless you can control it.

I'm teaching him all I've learned in martial arts, defensive control and street fighting. He's not aggressive but has used it once on a bully to stand up for someone that could not defend themselves.

Thanks old guy.

You will need to be on your knees then....and while you're down there....

Was 'and while you're down there ...' a line in a movie or something? Every time anyone kneels around me in any type of situation in life, that phrase always comes to mind but I don't know how I got started thinking it.

I don't know LOL....It's just something a perverted mind never stops thinking of I suppose. Any opportunity to blurt out an inappropriate remark...this is why I'm self employed :)

My technique is virtually fool proof and involves using both my feet and running away as fast as they can carry me.

Seriously, even if trained, unless you don't have a choice and it's kill or be killed, don't try to disarm a person armed with a gun. And if you do, don't stop till they are dead or senseless.

A good Samaritan doesn't have to be a dead hero. Just my 2 cents.

From my experience, most idiots with a gun will not shoot. They see this as encouragement for their stupidity as an extension of their hand. Monologue-ing is the next mistake. Too much talk, just shoot. Idiots like to tell you how they're going to ruin your day, before they try to ruin your day. I can't tell you of how many I've knocked out, subdued or disarmed because they love to hear their own voice.

I don't think I could live with myself if I don't do something about a wrong doing. I would go down being happy that I tried to do something instead of running away from it or ignoring it.

SAN ANTONIO - The Good Samaritan killed in a jewelry store heist on Sunday afternoon has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner as Jonathan Murphy, 42.
[h=2]RELATED: Second suspect arrested in deadly shooting at Rolling Oaks Mall[/h]A GoFundMe page, which has not yet been confirmed to be associated with Murphy's family, described him as a family man and a manager at World Car Hyundai.
"Jon was a good man, he would do anything for other people,” said Aunt of the victim, Sara Nunnelee.
And that is exactly what he did Sunday afternoon. Police say Murphy tried to stop two men who stormed into Kay Jewelers trying to rob it.
"They went to get his watch repaired and while they were there they were getting their wedding bands cleaned and it was as their rings were being cleaned that it all happened,” said Murphy’s stepdaughter Amber Sligh.
Sligh says Jon and her mom Amy told her they were running a few quick errands and then would be home. But, sadly Amber never saw here step dad again.
According to reports, Murphy tried to stop two men who were attempting to rob the store inside Rolling Oaks Mall. He was shot and killed.

Amy and Jon were so love. He adored her and their 5 children.
"One time, when they were leaving the movie theatre, there was a big fight outside and he just escorted his wife to the corner and shielded her with his body, he was just that type of person,” said Nunnelee.

Murphy never served in the military but came from a military family and respected the service and sacrifice. Amber is not sure if Jon knew the robbers had guns. But, regardless he would have done what he did. His family asks for the communities continued support as they try to heal from a senseless act.

"We just want to thank everyone with their heartfelt messages and their prayers, right now we just need the comfort,” said Nunnelee.
One suspect was also shot and injured. He remained at San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. A second suspect was later arrested.

One article says he a former marine but the one here says he did not serve in the military.

Anyways if he is a former marine then probably the instincts just kicked in.

If not, well he made a good intentioned bad choice. Feel bad for his family and hope they raise a lot of cash for them on go fund me.
