Made me realize that we do work hard and we deserve to be proud unlike others that collect unemployment an the lazy ones that live of their parents or partners

If you do not have an education you need to make your money on your own. It's hard and next too impossible to work your way up the corporate ladder albeit you can take night courses if you have a good manager supporting you.

Depends on what you consider making it big.
I may not be among the wealthiest people but I believe I'm pretty well off.

If you do not have an education you need to make your money on your own. It's hard and next too impossible to work your way up the corporate ladder albeit you can take night courses if you have a good manager supporting you.

People do not have to work in a corporate field (trying to impress enough to climb to the next level or hoping to have a good manager to support you) to make a good living.
If you are skilled at what you do and have a good reputation you do not need to sit in a cubicle entering data 60hrs a week to get ahead.

Do you like what you do? yes but of course

Laziness is the mother of efficiency!

When I started my job it took 50hrs per week to get everything done. Now I can get it done in 20hrs. That frees me up to work on other things to improve myself (helping me do my job even better)...and to come on here as needed.

I wouldn't tell your boss or you will become part-time.:biggrin2:

As much as many will disagree with me and I don't blame anyone, but don't be so dramatically hard on those who are on EI or other forms of assistance unless you know exactly why they are. Where the social assistance route bothers me is when it is taught and abused over generations of the same family.

If you work, you pay into EI and are entitled to it; it's a safety net for a time when your employment goes south literally in many instances.

We can all say that we work hard and earn our keep, but let's remember that there are so many that work so much harder than any of us for a lot less.

That attitude is the problem. I not only do the work required in much less time as I've become more efficient but I also continue to work to improve production with the newly won free time. And yet, there are people out there that think like that! That if you use less time and effort to produce the same results, then you aren't working hard enough. Shouldn't the ultimate goal be to get the production expected in the least time/effort possible? Why would you want someone to slow down so they work 40hrs/per week if they can get it done in 20? You shouldn't punish them for efficiency, you should reward them! For a while there piece work became the rage in manufacturing...workers got paid based on how many pieces of product they produced, rather than on the number of hours worked. People could produce more in less time and then have time free to pursue their own happiness. What's wrong with that?!

I worked on assembly lines in several manufacturing plants when I was younger, and always challenged myself to get better and more efficient on whatever machines I operated. I eventually started setting production records and all my co-workers were pissed off at me because it made them look bad if they didn't work harder to keep up. Management noticed my work ethic and I was promoted to QC within a year.
