Well, the current trend is to legitimize sex work and to afford it the same protection and rights enjoyed by other industries. The SCC is currently debating the laws about incalls, "living off the avails of sex work", and "communicating publicly for the purposes of...", which was were mostly struck down in Ontario as of last year.

But as hard as it is to believe for some of us, many people view sex as dirty, as only for procreation, as something that needs to be rigidly controlled. These people doubly despise sex work, and see it as a path to sin, a form of exploitation, a gateway to other crimes. Little do they realise, or want to understand, that their move to prohibit sex work is what makes it the seedy, dangerous industry it is.

Actually, there was a string of recent murders that are showing the Swedish model really does not work, and prompting a world-wide condemnation of that endeavour. The best model seems to be coming from New Zealand.
