The problem isn't "not living forever", it's that life is lived backwards.

It'd be nice if, when you finally have some knowledge and wisdom, you weren't too old to use it i.e. be born old and get younger so you can still enjoy it.

Then climb right back in at the end. Heck, it's where you've been trying to get back, since you came out, all that time you were alive anyhow!

Living forever would have it's drawbacks but you'd live through some history and have some great stories to tell.
