Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for most of southern Ontario, including Toronto, Peel, York, Durham and Hamilton.
Up to 15 centimetres could fall Friday, the agency said, and the warning covers a large swath of the province, stretching as far north as Ottawa, and west to Sarnia.
But CityNews meteorologist Adam Stiles thinks warmer temperatures will spare Toronto a heavier snowfall.
"We are lowering the snowfall totals from the earlier projections of 10-15 cm, closer to 5-10 cm for the lower elevations," he said on Thursday night. "Looks like warmer air is starting to wrap into the system here for the GTA.
The snow is expected to begin just after midnight and intensify after 4 a.m.
It’s all because of a low-pressure system from Kansas.
"If we get on the warm side of that system, we'll see just five to 10 centimetres in Toronto. If we're on the cold side, we'll see higher amounts," CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai added.
The heaviest snow is expected between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m., just in time for the Friday morning commute
