Toronto police say two women injured by gunfire at York University Thursday night were likely not targeted by the shooter.
At 10:45 p.m. ET police were called to a shooting in the student centre of the campus located on York Boulevard in northwest Toronto.

Police say a man walking through the student centre food court discharged a firearm, hitting one woman in the leg and injuring a second woman with shrapnel.
Both women were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The campus was initially locked down after the shooting. However, the lockdown was lifted around 1:10 a.m. ET when Toronto police advised university officials that the campus "can resume normal operations."

Police say the suspect fled on foot after the shooting.
He is described as a black man in his mid-20s, about five foot eight inches to six feet tall.

He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black coat.
Police are asking for anyone with information about the shooting to contact them at 416-808-3100 or by calling Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

On another note, Police received a tip saying that they hit the wrong campus; the shooter was looking for Humber College but couldn't read the directions. Just kidding!

Toronto police have made an arrest in connection with the York University shooting that sent two women to hospital on March 6.

Kemon Edwards, 22, was arrested and has been charged with 17 offences.

One woman was injured by shrapnel and another was shot in the leg and taken to Sunnybrook Hospital when a man entered the university's food court and fired a gun at around 11 p.m. ET on March 6.

"I heard a loud bang and I thought it was because the chair fell, but it was actually the gunshot, I didn't know this and my leg went numb," one of the victims told CBC News from her hospital bed last week. She didn't realize at the time she had been shot in the leg. The bullet lodged in her thigh.

A campus lockdown occurred after the shooting and was lifted at around 1:10 a.m. ET March 7.
The university put out a statement saying that it had taken “several measures to enhance safety on campus, including increasing security patrols and the use of Toronto Police Service.”

Edwards was initially charged with eight offences including:
- Careless use of a firearm.
- Discharging a firearm, endangering life.
- Aggravated assault.
- Possession of dangerous weapons.
- Carrying a concealed weapon.
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
- Possession of weapon dangerous to public peace.
- Assault causing bodily harm.

Police also obtained a warrant to search his address in the Steeles Avenue and Jane Street area, leading to nine other gun and drug-related charges.

The search led to five other arrests, including two boys aged 16 and 17, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Adults charged were Dominic Bernard, 20; Alex James, 23; and Jesse Dawson, 23.
