Servers make only make $1.50 less per hour than the minimum wage. I never understood why they have to get 15 to 20% of a bill when the regular Joe doesn't.

I've worked as a waitress years ago, back when I was young and naive, lol, and loved it, and would love to do it again, But, I'm afraid my outspoken nature and intolerance for ignorance would get me fired as soon as I'd be hired, lol.
I can appreciate the need for tipping. When I dine out, poor or mediocre service gets 15%, good and very good service gets 20-30%. That's how I've always tipped. Only a couple of times have I left a tip equal to the bill, and for reasons I'll keep to myself
Tips are a way, imo, of showing your server how much you appreciated their efforts.

I admit it when it comes to tipping I'm a sucker, especially if it's a good looking girl.

Before I started in the industry I wasn't a big tipper. One of my best friends works in the service industry and would get so mad at me so i would begrudgingly tip only when we were out together.

Since starting in the industry I have really started to understand how important tipping is (even though my tips aren't necessarily required). I like to tip as much as I can when I go out now. I know I really appreciate tips so they must be so thankful when someone tips.
