Never understood chat lines but at 15 the voice of reason is rarely your friend. Poor kid, imagine your mother catching you? Now the whole school and neighbourhood knows.

As for the original story, the parents should pay up, no questions asked. Why should anyone else be held responsible for what her son did? In addition, the parents should run a tab and make the kid pay off that bill with whatever he earns. Really, this is like blaming the owner if her son stole a car........but isn't this typical these days?
I remember an acquaintance who was about to get married, a week before the wedding i heard that it might get called off, supposedly (they were living together before the wedding) she opened the phone bill and saw $3000 worth of charges to one of these lines........

I feel kind of bad for the young kid. He didn't know any better and was curious like all 15 year old boys are. Since the mom's gone public he's probably one embarrassed horny little dude. You would think the phone company would have software in place that would notify the client if anything really unusual was happening on their account, like the credit card companies do.

I don't feel bad for the kid at all and I don't buy the "he didn't know any better"......either he's a complete moron or he knew how much it was costing, it is plainly stated during the commercials and print ads and (I suppose) when you actually make the call.......
I find that the public notice will be good for him. Make him think twice before doing something so stupid again. Kind of like that mom made the kid stand on the corner with a billboard and that dad who shot his daughter's laptop........it also will serve as an example to other kids that if they do something wrong, it might go public........
