Yup, it's a kidney stone.

Lot's of causes before you get to just pure diet

[h=3]What causes kidney stones?[/h]Kidney stones form when there is a decrease in urine volume and/or an excess of stone-forming substances in the urine. The most common type of kidney stone contains calcium in combination with either oxalate or phosphate. About 75% of kidney stones are calcium stones. Other chemical compounds that can form stones in the urinary tract include uric acid, magnesium ammonium phosphate (which forms struvite stones; see below), and the amino acid cystine.
Dehydration from reduced fluid intake or strenuous without adequate fluid replacement increases the risk of kidney stones. Obstruction to the flow of urine can also lead to stone formation. In this regard, climate may be a risk factor for kidney stone development, since residents of hot and dry areas are more likely to become dehydrated and susceptible to stone formation.
Kidney stones can also result from infection in the urinary tract; these are known as struvite or infection stones. Metabolic abnormalities, including inherited disorders of metabolism, can alter the composition of the urine and increase an individual's risk of stone formation.
A number of different medical conditions can lead to an increased risk for developing kidney stones:

  • Gout results in chronically increased amount of uric acid in the blood and urine and can lead to the formation of uric acid stones.
  • Hypercalciuria (high calcium in the urine), another inherited condition, causes stones in more than half of cases. In this condition, too much calcium is absorbed from food and excreted into the urine, where it may form calcium phosphate or calcium oxalate stones.
  • Other conditions associated with an increased risk of kidney stones include , kidney diseases such as renal tubular acidosis, and other inherited metabolic conditions, including and hyperoxaluria.
  • Chronic diseases such as and (hypertension) are also associated with an increased risk of developing kidney stones.
  • People with are also more likely to develop kidney stones.
  • Those who have undergone intestinal bypass or ostomy surgery are also at increased risk for kidney stones.
  • Some medications also raise the risk of kidney stones. These medications include some diuretics, calcium-containing antacids, and the protease inhibitor (Crixivan), a drug used to treat HIV infection.
  • Dietary factors and practices may increase the risk of stone formation in susceptible individuals. In particular, inadequate fluid intake predisposes to dehydration, which is a major risk factor for stone formation. Other dietary practices that may increase an individual's risk of forming kidney stones include a high intake of animal protein, a high-salt diet, excessive sugar consumption, excessive vitamin D supplementation, and possible excessive intake of oxalate-containing foods such as spinach. Interestingly, low levels of dietary calcium intake may alter the calcium-oxalate balance and result in the increased excretion of oxalate and a propensity to form oxalate stones.

Was it you or one you know?.

Yep, it is one, spent last night in the hospital. I know the feeling now, no mistaking it.

and as for that whole brain controlling the pain thing... That's the gayest shit I've ever heard. Fuck that, I'll take the drugs regardless of consequences.

Trudat brother!! I've known some of the toughest dudes brought to tears over a kidney stone.

Thanks folks, I really do appreciate the warm wishes. I feel better, (but a bit tender) now, here is hoping it passes quickly.

I'm praying for you a 1. I've watched my daddy suffer so badly from bouts with kidney stones, here's hoping you well wishes.

I'VE GOT A KIDNEY STONE STORY!
March 2004, I was participating in sexual activities with a lovely SP, who used to be a neighbour of mine. When I was doing push-ups, I felt this strange shiver through my body and an incredibly sharp cutting out of old one eye and as we flipped for the Greek tour, I saw red! So I asked my lady friend if auntie Flo was visiting and she went bazerko on me at first. I became very feverish and slid the trojan off to see the red river and the sharp pirahna's swimming around. I tied the trojan like a balloon, washed up and went to the E.R.

At the E.R., there were three nurses all very attractive and that asked what's up? LMAO! So I told them, I've passed something and it's not gas into a trojan, and I'm bleeding. So before I handed the trojan over, I said, "Careful, I'm on the inside and she's still on the outside!" We all laughed and one nurse asked me why I had a bulge in my pants so I said, "The three of you are turning me on and I guess it's swelling wanna check?" More laughter and some blushing. The truth was that I filled a sandwich baggie with ice and stuck it on the royal septre and crown jewels to keep swelling down, and to start conversation:wink2:

Anyway, the doctor examined alittle closely, ran some tests, gave me a script, and told me a was genius (seriously) for saving the trojan and using the ice. He said, the little nurse wanted to chat me up. She resembled Megan Mullaly (Will & Grace tv series), we dated almost 20 months and it was great until she started hinting biological clock and purchasing a home together. I said, "Well I'm not sure about marriage, but living together and having a family isn't a bad idea." Boy did she screw me silly, even put it in her pooper before her pie-hole or vajaja. LMAO. So we had a great night together, made breakfast went for a long walk, back to her place. Shagged like teenagers, all over her place and fell asleep again. Then, I said, this whole relationship thing isn't working for me and I don't need the pressure; we should take a break.

The shit hit the fan and got outta dodge fast......

lol....ok on a serious note, I had it one time this year and it was brutal. How do you know it will return before it is too late to do anything about it?

I thought it was a diet too rich in dairy and not enough water.

I've heard the same thing. I drink lots of water every day even at my desk. The only time my urine is yellow is in the morning when I wake up. Otherwise it's always clear.

Wow.....you guys really didn't need to know that.

That's the gayest shit I've ever heard. Fuck that, I'll take the drugs regardless of consequences.

The biggest problem with drugs as I see it is that they work.

HOF, I just puked and almost passed out reading your story!

How are you doing Pussy.....
I mean a 1 player....:LMAO:
No you can not spank me.....:NoNoNo:

I hope you are ok....just checking .....

Not bad today thanks. If I go by my own historical information, I should have about three more attacks until I start to pass it.

I hear that the major cause of kidney stones is A1 sauce......no wait that sounded totally gay ...er ...sorry. :biggrin2:

Too late, the cat is out of the bag!:biggrin2:

I don't really give a rats ass what the cause is. I drink tons of water, try to control my salt, rarely ever eat dairy, (I am guilty of eating meat though), very rarely have alcohol...

It's like winning the lottery. Some people just get them.
