50 people shot in Florida Bar

It amazes me that people don't carry handguns for their own, personal, protection in the U.S.

I have my restricted arms licence, but I don't carry on me in Ontario for obvious reasons.

A bar in Florida had 50 people shot - many will obviously die - yet I am perplexed as to why people call the police for protection against a gunman instead of shooting the gunman themselves.

Makes no sense at all.

Eventually, those on the left will come to their senses - I hope.

The government is blaming a Muslim for the violence, but I tend to think it is the government that is orchestrating these mass shootings.

Brings up a touchy subject. People will ignore laws making guns illegal. It's already happening in some liberal states where people are not turning in their "illegal" weapons.

The problem with simply making them illegal is it does not stop the criminal element from getting guns. Confiscation would require many provisions of the Constitution to be completely trampled over. This is the discussion that anti-gun people will not go into when you bring it up.

It's funny because a lot of these same people hate and do not trust the Police and with confiscation they would need to put much more responsibility into their hands.

If you make it legal is another subject to discuss that can go on forever.

As for people carrying guns willy-nilly. Just no. That's already pretty much what the US has and here is the latest example of the result. Firearms belong in the hands of trained professionals only.

Just because someone has access to a tool, does not make them qualified to use it.

Case in point: I just fought for the first time in over a decade. I've been training for the last 2 years to get back into shape, and have even started teaching. But I haven't had any chances to spar at my level. The result: I did ok, but got trounced in my 4th match by a dude of equivalent experience who is currently competing. He was used to operating in this environment whereas I only vaguely remembered how.

That principle is dead on for hand-to-hand, sticks, blades, and firearms. If you're not used to a scenario, your reactions will be unpredictable. You might fight back, or you might freeze, or you might dissolve in a sobbing puddle. Anyone who claims different is fooling themselves.

NBC News obtained a statement this morning from the father of Omar Mateen, the individual identified as the Orlando nightclub shooter.

He said, “We are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren’t aware of any action he was taking. We are in shock, like the whole country.”

The father also said this had nothing to do with religion, though he did claim that his son was “angry when he saw two men kissing in downtown Miami a couple months ago” and that may have been why he targeted a gay nightclub.

In North Korea, only the government has the right to carry guns. It has worked out well so far. Same as with China and every other dictatorial, killing regime.
