It's really rare for me to like a cover better than the original, but this is one of those times.

 
I was reminiscing with friends about Audience's "House On The Hill" which was an FM progressive rock classic from 1971. Haven't played the album in decades.
I looked them up and learned the singer was considered as a replacement for Jim Morrison. I've heard the same about Iggy Pop and Alice Cooper, each would have been interesting choices.
