After reading about Anthony Bourdain's, Kate Spade and numerous famous musicians and actors the last couple of years.

What is going on?. Not even counting the many infamous people that commit suicide.

I Googled and this came up.

Suicide rate: US saw 25% increase since 1999, CDC says - CNN

Then we have a huge problem with Canada's first nations that even our government cannot fix.

I find that odd. Surely a close friend of family member must have noticed something and suggest visiting a doctor.

More than half of those who died by suicide had not been diagnosed with a mental health condition, said Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the CDC.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

There have been a number of studies that have shown that mental distress has increased in the past 30 years. Theories are that it has to do with the break up of the traditional social network... we just don't spend as much time with people we know anymore. Social media is a poor substitute because its too much about posing and pretending, and not enough about really connecting with people.

Therapy for mental health problems is often prohibitively expensive; even those covered by a good health plan often cannot afford more than perhaps 5 sessions with a psychotherapist (my plan gives me 5 visits). Most people have no clue how to find help and many are reluctant to seek help for fear of being stigmatized. Other people think they can deal with the problem with drugs or alcohol, but those typically make the problem worse.

Psychiatrists typically are so busy, they just prescribe drugs which don't have any real long term efficacy. Few people ever even see a psychiatrist, but instead get a anti-depressant from the family doctor who is totally unqualified to treat the issue (no training). We need to stop letting family doctors prescribe psychological meds and instead require them to prescribe time with a social worker (which is cheaper than a psychiatrist or psychologist and can be as effective as a psychologist if properly trained).

Have you ever mulled over the possibility that not all individuals who commit suicide are actually suffering from mental illness? A larger demographic than some believe kill themselves but in fact are completely of sound mind.

You all know that in the USA, insurance companies won't pay a penny if you commit suicide. In Canada, you get back your principal.

Another one that wants to kill herself.

I think, anyone who's only interest in life, is themselves, will eventually tire of life.
