but that is like saying it's better to be stabbed than shot....just because they are the lowest in the country doesn't make it any better.....

If tuitions everywhere keep going up it will again reach the point where only the rich will be able to go to post secondary institutions.....

I personally think things like education, medical, utilities should all be non-profit. I think it is in Denmark (?) where the state pays people to go to school....60 minutes did a segment on it and there was one guy who had 3 doctorates......I mean, we could never do that here, if they did, the retired MPPs might have to give up 1 of their 6 or 7 pensions......

There are a lot of areas that are "luxury" or non-essential that consume massive amounts of government funds....

For example: border guards. We wouldn't need so many at say, Lewiston, if people would just shop here. A tremendous amount of cross border traffic is caused by people just going over to get things cheaper. If they reduced the tarrifs here, then you wouldn't need so many guards......it's like RevCan needs so many employees because our tax system is so complicated. If they made it simpler, they wouldn't need so many employees and wouldn't need to collect so many taxes......

The thing that bugs me the most is how, and I don't know just how much the profs make but I assume it is quote good, that so many "think" they deserve to be well paid.....for eg: the company I work for, the guys who design the houses make as much as the entire crew building the house. Are they any more essential to the project? No. They are simply one cog in the wheel. It's the guys who actually put the house up properly who IMO are more essential.

There is a good ad running around the TV and radio these days about nurses....They said that nurses perform so many essential and life saving services yet we don't pay them or admire them like sports stars. Sure, OV is talented....but for the money paid to these players, they'd better score every game.....

There are posts about these protesters being "spoiled" same as the occupy wall street protesters......sorry, I disagree...they are just students who are fed up with getting hosed while the rest of us just sit back and bitch and moan.....sooner or later we will ALL have to start taking what is rightfully ours until those with the silver spoons start to equalize our society......

T you make some really good points. Post secondary education especially in Ontario is becoming a privilege for the better off. I was listening to a talk show on the topic and one of the guest was saying the kids should get a part time job to help pay for it. I agree they should be working part-time but I don't believe it will get them very far working 20 hours a week at 10.00 an hour.

The way our economy is going we go back to the same thought as mentioned in other posts- a clash of classes with some fierce fighting is eventually going to happen.

I don't know if that clash is going to happen in my lifetime, but it will happen. Things cannot continue the way they are going.....the middle class (who support the entire economy) is shrinking rapidly and sooner or later we'll all be poor......I read somewhere that while 90% of the money in our society went to 40% of the top population (compared to 99%/top 1% in the US) that number has changed dramatically in recent years....I seem to recall hearing that it was now 90% going to the top 10%.......

When welfare runs out, and EI is cut due to government funding issues, that is when i think it will finally come......

OH and don't kid yourself that it is only education that the rich will receive....it's medical coverage as well. Sure, we get "free" healthcare but it isn't actually free since we pay such high taxes to support it. To use my recent and upcoming cataract surgery for example, the only thing the government covered was the outdated ultrasound measuring of my eyes and the outdated plastic interocular lens. I had to pay extra for laser measuring of my eyes ($339 per eye) and opted for upgraded lens' ($120 per eye). Now add in the $200 for all the eye drops I need, and 4 weeks off work you're talking well north of $3000....One more thing, I didn't go for the other two choices of IOL lens', one type was $900 each and the best one was $2000 each.....so, bottom line is, the rich (or well off) got better healthcare than I did/am......

So right now, only the well off can afford a good education, and as per my example, the best healthcare, what's next|? food? Housing? We already know that if you have $1M in the bank you get preferred interest rates so now we have education, banking, healthcare...........
