Boy Scouts to get new name after 108 years as girls join group

I have mixed emotions here.

I am a LIFE SCOUT

But I question the decision....I am worried about watering down Scouting

My boy is in scouting. The way it's being presented to us is that there are girls who just prefer the activities done in boy scouts rather than those done by the girl scouts. I really don't see a big issue. As far as i've heard, the girls will have their own separate groups. They won't be camping together either...avoiding any of those boy-girl issues. But hell, even now, sisters of the male scouts often participate in activities and meetings.

Could they also just incorporate more of the activities that the girls like into the girl scouts...sure. But isn't the ultimate goal to raise all kids with some sense of duty and honor? Does it really matter if it's all boys or a mixed group. The lessons are still the same.

I don't really get the people that are over the top upset about this. It's not like lowering physical test standards to allow more women to become firefighters. This is supposed to be about fun and learning how to be good people. It's also a smart move by the BSA....you get more members and the money they contribute. If they GSA doesn't want to adapt to provide the activities that these girls want, then they'll go down hill until they go out of business.

Has yur son gotten his Shotgun, Riffle, Hunting and Archery Merit Badges?

What are they naming the girl's scouts?.

Too young yet. This was only his first year and most of the "badges" that they earn at his age are for very simple things. I think all of those kinds of badges come when they step up to Boy Scout level after being cub scouts.
